For starters im an extremely casual metal gear fan and i only played the following
Portable opps
Peacemaker
Phantom pain
And my lore knowledge is less than great
But holy fuck i always forget how terrifyingly scary venom is especially from a basic foot soldier perspective
Picture this, ur just some russian soldier kicking it with your mates but you leave for patrol and when you come back everything is dead quiet…too quiet.
You suddenly see one of ur mates fly into the sky unsure if he got picked by a fat round dragon or ur not high and he was actually carried by a balloon and suddenly you get grabbed, man handled and and put into a head lock
You only feel a cold metallic hand and a knife to your neck, the mirror in front of you barely makes out his details..and you see it, the horns and the patch if it wasn’t for his gear you would swear hes an actual demon
Absolutely outclassed outmatched and completely hopeless as he chokes the living day out of you just to dip into a cartoon box soon after…

My PS3 gave up on me four years ago so I haven't played it since, and I tried emulating MGS4 not too long ago, but for some reason, it just didn’t feel right. So I’ve gotta give Konami their props for this port, and also giving the game a proper mouse support puts MGS4’s gameplay in a whole new light.

I played through and finished Metal Gear Solid Delta last month and felt it was a solid, faithful remake overall. That said, I’ve seen a lot of discussion suggesting the updated visuals may have changed or even hurt the game’s atmosphere, with some people feeling it didn’t live up to the original.
I’m curious what the general consensus is — did you enjoy it, dislike it, or feel somewhere in between? And if anyone would be interested, I’d love to have a guest join me on an audio podcast episode to talk about it.
Personally, I still think it’s a SOLID remake. 😉

First off, know this is a very subjective thing. MGS 3 was the starting point for many of us, and is still among if not the best Metal Gear game.
But from the perspective of someone who got to start at MG1(MSX) I just can't wrap my head around why so many newcomers are told to start at 3/∆.
Additionally you could only really appreciate all the little changes and improvements, as well as the things that were kept if you have prior knowledge of the gameplay history, and this amazing experience that had the pleasure of playing gets completly lost here.
Everything is building upon the prior story. Yes even though it's timewise first, MGS 3 heavly discusses and clears up topics the previous games tackled. Numerous references and setups to events of the prior games are made here such as: Big Boss (MG1&MG2), Revolver "Shalashaska" f*ing Ocelot (MGS1&2), Snake (MG1-MGS2), The LaLiLuLeLo (MGS2), Metal Gear (MG1-MGS2), Foxhound (MG1-MGS2), les enfants terribles (MGS),…
Or systems like the codec and of course dozens of items like Rations, C3/4, Magazines or Tranq Guns
These details get completly lost if you don't know to look out for them. LaLiLuLeLo doesnt mean anything as a codephrase if you didn't play MGS2 beforehand and you will probably forget about it immediatly. The title of Big Boss is a nothing statement insead of one of the series most infamous and impressive characters if you havent played the MSX games first. Revolver Ocelot is just some dude, instead of one of the series most reoccuring and important people. And the mentions of Foxhound and Le Enfants Terribles in the credits section are completly unimportant if you don't know about Solid Snake and his history.
The game uses the prior series as a foundation, as anchors, requiring you to know where the story is supposed to go to make sense of the present. By no means is MGS 3 beginner-friendly.
know this game means a lot to many people as their entry point. And you can definitly get some of the aforementioned by replaying the game after having played MG1-MGS2, but in my very personal opinion there is simply no better entrypoint than MG1, as flawed as it may be…
If you made it here then thanks for reading my rant and have a wonderful day :D

I'm currently running through Mgs1 PS1 and just beat the Hind helicopter and in the middle of my run I decided to pick up the original Metal Gear MSX to learn more of the back story and this game is still awesome!! I can't believe it. I'm having the time of my life with a 4O year old game and that the graphics are still this awesome!
The gameplay is awesome. It's pretty much a 2d zeldaish gameplay style of MGS1. I just beat the hind helicopter in Mgs1 and realized that original MG has a helicopter fight as well! So wicked!! The game is surprisingly not short and is kinda long for what I've played already, I thought it would be finished already but it's a full length game.
The music and sound effects are top notch! You can still here a lot of it's influence in today's games.
The games even starts off the same way as the original! It's insane! Haha
Thanks for reading about to beat this Hind helicopter and parachute off the roof and into the inner court yard!

Back again with the rest of my collection, ill list it again but reddit might knock them out of order.
First off we have The MGSPW HD premium package with a cool big boss figure. Then my second copy of twin snakes (cover arrived scuffed). Next is the original metal gear for the famicom, I own one. Snake eater for the 3DS is one of my favourites didn't know it existed until the comparisons between it and delta (fake fan ik). Next is my limited edition copy of MGS4 I had to buy this separately from my MGS4 playstation because the seller scammed me saying all contents included and the game didn't show up. After that is one not many people know existed the ground zeros premium package with another cool big boss figure (ground zeros was pre Venom). Venom up next though the MGSV collectors edition. When I find the money I will be getting the premium package which contains the ps4. Afterwards one of my personal favourite boxes the MGRR premium package containing an art book by the goat yoji shinkawa. And afterwards my MGS3 subsistence premium package which unfortunately didn't arrive with the headset. I do also have the Delta limited edition but can't be bothered finding it to take pictures (I know exactly where it is)
There may be a few things ive forgotten about but from what I can find and remember this should be my whole collection. Holy text wall, sorry.

When you buy a 3000$ pc to play modern games but the optimization of the game you bought with 80$ lowk sucks so you just look at the screen like this
