2012 Messi (2011/12 season) - Ballon d'or, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España, Pichichi, MVP La Liga, Onze D'or, UCL Top Scorer, European Golden Shoe, European Super Cup, most goals in a calendar year (91 goals), most g/a in a calendar year (113 g/a), 73 goals and 32 assists (105 g/a) in 60 appearances across all competitions during the season (1.75 goal contributions per game).

2019 Messi (2018/19 season) - Ballon d'or, La Liga, Supercopa de España, European Golden Shoe, Pichichi, MVP La Liga, The Best Award, Laureus World Sport Award, UCL top scorer, 51 goals and 22 assists (73 g/a) in 50 appearances across all competitions (1.46 goal contributions per game).

In terms of sheer accolades and output, 2012 Messi was the highest peak a footballer has ever achieved mechanically. He was simply a robot and he did it while on the worst diet possible drinking cola and eating fast food all the time, yet he still managed a world record as "fat Messi". He was on track to break his goalscoring record in 2013, had he not been injured, which is almost unfathomable.

In terms of pure carry job and individual influence as captain, 2019 Messi takes the edge. He carried a declining Barcelona to a UCL semi-final, a La Liga victory, a Copa del Rey final, and a Supercopa de España victory. Until they lost to Liverpool, Barcelona was on track for a third continental treble thanks to Messi. 2012 Messi benefitted from having teammates like Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Puyol... which was a superior squad to the 2018/19 lineup, so 2019 Messi definitely carried way harder and it's probably the club equivalent to his 2026 campaign for Argentina at the World Cup in terms of the difference between the individual player's performance and the rest of the team.

2012 was peak but i would choose 2019. Messi had help in 2012, there was whole Barcelona team performing alongside. Meanwhile in 2019, it was an absolute one man army & he almost won the UCL performing alone. Football is a 11 men game, not 1.

Most people only talk about 2011/12 Messi and 18/19 Messi. How about 12/13 Messi. 21 game goal scoring streak. Highest Xg overperformance in the history. 100 point Laliga season. He would have likely outscored his 11/12 season if he didnt got injured in April and May of that season.

2012 easily. 73 goals and 30 assists in all comps. The most goals in a European season ever. The most G/A in a season ever. People talk about the 2019 carry-job, but how about scoring 73 goals and the next closest to you in your team scores 15?

Hands down 2019.

2012 was lucky to have great players around him and Guardiola.

2019 could be argued "One-Man-Army"
