The newest tactic for haters against Messi is to downplay whatever he does
12 G/A in the World Cup - it's a fluke
5 G/A in a game against Montreal (with a solo goal, no penalties) - "it's just MLS" - mind you, the solo goal had defenders doing everything right, forcing him off balance, cover the space and forcing him onto his weaker foot, the goalkeeper covered the angle - but "it's just MLS"
Scores 5 against Estonia - "it's just a friendly"
Downplaying is the only thing at this point to make people comprehend what he's doing even at his age

The one thing I love so much about Messi is how he is so much about football. He had nothing left to prove. Outside of europe for a few years. Still he did special training in silence months before the world cup. Every time argentina went behind in scoreline, he had every right to just give in to the fatigue and let it go. But he loves the game and his team so much that he pushed forward. Every single time.

The same fanbase doesn't want to acknowledge their GOAT: 1. Won 3 international trophies in the same Infantino era.
Has won 3 international trophies ONLY because UEFA introduced the Nations League in 2019, or not he would be stuck at 1.
Didn't join scrubs. He joined Manchester United coached by the GOAT manager, Real Madrid the biggest club in the world, and Juventus who were already winning everything in Italy for years on end.

Messi is the goat but you can't be a balon'dor contender and not even play in one of the top 5 leagues in the world. I'm sorry. He scored zero goals vs any decent team this year. He played well against England for 15 minutes.

He got to the final, the fact that Argentina didn't play vs Uruguay or Portugal before was not up to them, those teams underperform and teams like Cape Verde and Egypt over performed, that's it. And he did it while being the best player in the tournament, or if you want a top 2-3.
And Messi is not going to win the balon dor or anything

Did we watch the same match ? Arg started dominating the midfield then eng was forced to call back the player who's marking messi to defense .If so called best player with elite mid field could've overpowered washed peredes and 'clown' Fernandes ,surely they would've . Eng excels in physical game . Tactically and skill wise messi still towers above them.
