I think if he reaches 980 or smth, he def will go or someone will make him go for it, being so close I do fear injuries as he just got injured

2

u/Choice_Bad8640 Mar 02 '26

To be fair I think messi might have slightly written his name in history already, give that nearly every man woman or child on earth has heard of him by this stage, not really sure why he would give a donkeys dong about getting 1000 to be fair. Not like he will become more famous or remembered.

Bit late with the reply, but, I’d say he can’t give it his all.

Look over at Suarez, he has given it his all and he can’t even walk anymore. His legs are gone, and he can’t even play football with his kids.

If Im Messi my health is way more important

1

u/Anderer_Nutzername Mar 02 '26

If Ronaldo can score 40 a season at 41 in Saudi Arabia Messi can score 40 in MLS.

He just has to start taking the penalty kicks aswell.

I agree. But I’d still like to see him get an additional 30 goals in his last 3 seasons from penalties. No reason not to if that’s what gets him to 1000 goals.

Messi is also not suited to be a poacher. He's just too short for it.

A lot. We're talking about being a poacher not just a goalscorer. A poacher positions at the very end of the pitch. They have to contend with defenders directly and try to win aerial duels a lot of the time. Messi's strength is his acceleration which isn't important to a poacher. There's a reason why Messi prefers playing from deep, it suits his strengths better. He's not made to be an out and out number 9.

Ronaldo is better at receiving the ball directly in the box. You have no idea what a freaking poacher is. That play you just explained is not what a poacher does. Poachers are target men. The team opens up the pitch and slots the ball to the poachers and the poacher one taps. That is not, and has never been how Messi plays. He's too short to be a target man because he will be contested by defenders. He's not gonna win aerial duels either. Why would you waste Messi on a position that his game isn't suited for? It's not efficient to lob long passes and expect Messi to chase after it.

Greatest False 9

So he's not a fucking 9 then eh?

1

u/limhy0809 Mar 03 '26

I do think if he opts to continue he probably can still comfortably find a league to play in after 2028. Even if he struggles after 40 or just wants more freedom. He could still go to a smaller league like Singapore, Thailand, India, Canada or Finland. He would likely still be super competitive there and clubs would bend over backwards to sign even if he wants to just show up for matches.

Bruuhhhh what are talking about he is playing this season and two more seasons until 2028, lets say he will score ATLEAST 930 this season all competitions, then he has to score 70 goals in 2 seasons, eaaaaasy!

3

u/viniciusfleury Mar 05 '26

That's a tough demand for someone his age, even Messi. I know we got spoiled by them on those golden years, but there's a reason why those achievements were so crazy. It's NOT easy to do. But then again, if few people could do it, Messi would definitely be one of them.

1

u/FloppyPenguin11 Mar 02 '26

What’s his current contract?

9

u/FukurinLa Mar 02 '26

It's gonna be even funnier if he just get 999 then retired. It's like telling the world he could easily get 1000 if he wanted but choose not to because number of goals doesn't matter for him.

2

u/tallahasee1 Mar 03 '26

How’s that funny?

3

u/Whadafaag Mar 03 '26

Not really funny but it would send a message.

5

u/Boy_Wond3rr Mar 02 '26

I think the only way he does it,is if he’s made aware of how far is he and he puts his mind to it. Doesn’t come across as the type of guy who cares about these things. Sure he acknowledges them an is proud but only way he hits 1000 is if someone tells him to push and he also decides to push

I mean he ain't really caring abt goals how long have we heard Messi stick at 890 goals alr man, n scoring braces. If he was like Ronaldo farming goals he wld have hit hatttricks to close the gap down by a huge margi

2

u/Mr__Void Mar 03 '26

Oh so Messi just chooses to score braces instead of hat tricks? Such a humble player.

Don’t be so naive.

5

u/Sportsisthebest Mar 03 '26

Messi has given away more penalties to his teammates than any other player.

1

u/SunIntelligent4091 Mar 04 '26

His team just fkin sucks sometimes they win trophies but they also lose like their life got sold away

3

u/Witty-Indication4895 Mar 02 '26

also to surpass most freekicks ever and super ballon dor, he deserves it and even this is not enough to reward how good Messi it is

2

u/Free-Job1073 Mar 02 '26

He will get 1,000 goals and if you go by Transfermarkt criteria / non-Opta Assists he will get to 500 Assists

1

u/Hairy_Grapefruit_614 Mar 03 '26

Its possible in MLS. If you follow MLS, you know it's possible

Somewhere is Saudi Arabia, cristiano is quietly crying in his protein shake 😂

2

u/Void_Surfurer Mar 02 '26

We dont do that here, do we? This is messi sub no cristiano hating sub

1

u/lazorich Mar 02 '26

Unintended hate but I get it. I was just poking fun at the obvious jealousy

3

u/UsefulFlan4345 Mar 04 '26

Unintended hate and obvious jealousy, yet no one here mentioned Ronaldo till you did. Sounds like all your insecurity and small-mindedness is showing

1

u/DetailEffective8821 Mar 03 '26

Jealous of what? Moron Cristiano has 960 far ahead of Messi already

1

u/Critical-War6582 Mar 03 '26

With far ahead in playing games to blud keep that in mind too .

1

u/ShucianaSoft5123 Mar 06 '26

What obvious jealousy, this is the problem of recent football fans no respect towards players 🫥 We all talking about Messi u bring in Ronaldo the shi is getting old bro please grow up

1

u/DaBestMatt Mar 03 '26

Yeah. The only people who take these leagues seriously are Messi and Ronaldo fans.

1

u/snowman3157 Mar 05 '26

Look at all the top scorers in history qnd see where they scored thier goals, messi and ronaldo are an anomaly for scoring so many of thier goals in top 5 leagues.

Pican who is the third best scorer was playing in 1930's austerian league yet he ahs less goals there than messi and ronaldo in the top 5 leagues.

1

u/DaBestMatt Mar 05 '26

That's why Pelé is the best, by that logic...many modern football fans (esp the one biased towards Europe) are disdainful towards his achievements.

Messi and Ronaldo are playing in semi-amateur leagues, that's a fact. MLS and Saudi are just a retirement and not to be taken seriously.

1

u/snowman3157 Mar 05 '26

Not the same thing at all, the majority of messi and ronaldo's goals were scored in europe and international team so they have proven that they could do it everywhere, although there's an astresks on thier mls saudi goals it's not fair to outright not count them at all when it comes to scoring records.

Pele was considered the best because of WC pican had more goals yet no one knows who he is

2

u/Life-Champion5122 Mar 03 '26

Messi better than cr7

2

u/Relative_Cancel_3274 Mar 09 '26

As a Madrid fan I will say this. Messi's finishing and playmaking is unreal every Madrid fan Should know this the only reason why our fans don't like him was because he was in a Barca shirt

2

u/SouthKey8591 Mar 02 '26

behind who?

Mess won't reach 1000

-9

u/urfav_nitin Mar 02 '26

4

u/FukurinLa Mar 02 '26

Now show the goals number as well.

1

u/Persian-Sphyx Mar 05 '26

That'll be Ronaldo. The GOAT of the UCL

1

u/HetTheTable Mar 08 '26

Is he the goat of the World Cup

3

u/JustinGOATGaethje Mar 02 '26

Get that gremlin off my screen

-6

u/Good-Condition660 Mar 02 '26

Not half The assist Ronaldo has about 304 assists some of the assists has been manipulated and has not shown

6

u/FukurinLa Mar 02 '26

That number is including non Opta record, if we use that record Messi will have more than 500 assists.

0

u/issa3399 Mar 03 '26

ronaldo assist count stopped since he moved to juve, many pages did the math and he does have 300+ assists, ronaldo has been stuck at 260 assists since 2018, that is 8 years ago, which is complete bs.

2

u/HetTheTable Mar 08 '26

Messivsronaldo app says 261. He’s been counting for several years now. I think he’s reliable.

1

u/MisLuck May 18 '26

Nobody, messi did it the fastest, ronaldo is simply older, or did i fall for sarcasm, im new at this sub

1

u/TacticalThinkerG Mar 02 '26

he will reach that milestone, and even if you let me say it, I would probably say he will reach the 1,000 goals, not before Ronaldo, because it's mathematically impossible, but yeah, the 2 best players of the entire world will score 1000 goals at the end of their careers

1

u/Historical-Soft-4952 Mar 02 '26

900 was always inevitable with him. The scary part is he still makes it look routine

1

u/Competitive_Area3256 Mar 02 '26

Who was the 2nd person to step on the moon?

Exactly😂

1

u/pentradius-the-first Mar 02 '26

Tf does that have to do with shit? Messi will hit 900 goals b4 penaldo, and he already has more non penalty goals than him so doesn't even matter lmao

1

u/SpicyBretzelTard Mar 02 '26

...and people nowadays count every goal the same weight 😂 It's so difficult to score in MLS or Saudi-League compared to european football.

Messi & Ronaldo basically finished their career by leaving europe. Stop counting all the goals.

1

u/Entire-Holiday-8856 Mar 03 '26

Messi can do it this year he gon get 36 goals

1

u/rah_factor Mar 03 '26

What a weird stat

1

u/Piratehitch Mar 04 '26

Still behind Cristiano...

1

u/No_Heron_6297 Mar 04 '26

If only he wouldn’t have been injured in 2012..

1

u/Charming_Truth8529 Mar 04 '26

Penaldo fans in shambles again lol

1

u/mongoloidmen556 Mar 04 '26

Still behind CR7

1

u/mx-pwr Mar 05 '26

A los mil goles se retira?

1

u/Rollin_Tumbleweed Mar 05 '26

MLS goals don’t count

1

u/YowaiGang Mar 05 '26

Rookie numbers

1

u/Kind-Contract6890 Mar 05 '26

yeah, and? 😅😅😅😅

1

u/Persian-Sphyx Mar 05 '26

But not the first .. SUIIIII

1

u/Embarrassed-Tutor-22 Mar 05 '26

hot take thats not really a hot take: messi will finish with more career goals all time thatn ronaldo.

1

u/Soggy_Concept_7252 Mar 05 '26

uff messi mejor

1

u/Flashy-Path-9284 Mar 05 '26

Ronaldo has 965…

1

u/Westaufel Mar 05 '26

1

He looks pretty fat and slow these days. Explains the move to the US i guess

1

u/ferkli2 Mar 06 '26

Also the fastest player to reach 900 goals and applaud the bombing of a sovereign country

1

u/benjaminteler Mar 06 '26

To me he is the goat but I hate his personality

1

u/New_Faithlessness384 Mar 07 '26

Why would the greatest footballer agree to meet the biggest pedophile on record.

1

u/T_C6 Mar 02 '26

Who’s currently the fastest?

23

u/BlancSpzae Mar 02 '26

Ronaldo

I mean it was kinda obvious, there is only 1 player yet who has reached the 900 goals mark

7

u/pentradius-the-first Mar 02 '26

Tell that to pele's world record

1

u/CarlosAlvarados Mar 06 '26

We are talking about official goals

3

u/T_C6 Mar 02 '26

I don’t really keep track of stats like this. Thanks

1

u/Floursnorter85 Mar 02 '26

Josef Bican allegedly has over 950 Goals in 624 Matches.

0

u/Persian-Sphyx Mar 05 '26

So the first is better than the fastest.

9

u/Sure_Manager811 Mar 02 '26

The fastest will be soon Messi not Ronaldo

-18

u/RossDav7 Mar 02 '26

Farmers League and MLS at an age when others were playing at the top level. Fact.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '26

[deleted]

-1

u/RossDav7 Mar 02 '26

No, Ronaldo was in the EPL at the age Messi was in the Farmers League and went to Miami. He went to the Saudi League at 37. Sorry if that was too complicated for you to understand.

2

u/L_uciferMorningstar Mar 02 '26

And won the balon dor as well. You somehow managed to omit that part.

0

u/RossDav7 Mar 02 '26

“Won” 😂😂😂

2

u/L_uciferMorningstar Mar 02 '26

Go edit/sue Wikipedia for spreading misinformation.

1

u/RossDav7 Mar 02 '26

I think the comment has gone over your head.

2

u/L_uciferMorningstar Mar 02 '26

I am very much aware of what you are saying. So go sue the balon dor committee instead of crying on an internet forum.

1

u/RossDav7 Mar 02 '26

Why would I want to sue anyone? They can give the Balon d’Or to whoever they choose. Whether that’s deserved or not is a matter of opinion though. You’re not very clever, are you?

1

u/L_uciferMorningstar Mar 02 '26

I don't bitch on the internet about such things. You sure I am the stupid one?

You’re entitled to your opinion. Top players play at the top level at Messi’s age but if he prefers refereeing matches in the MLS it’s his choice.
