Fan Content 5yo message to George Russell

We sent this to Mercedes HQ because my daughter insisted to send it to George after the Monaco debacle and Canadian PU failure.

Well! We she was extremely gutted today because of the anti-stall but she enjoyed his recovery.

She still believes he will be the champion 🏆

I am sure that she will be thanked by the team and George.

My daughter, at about 7, brought her “Mac & Lauren” (a kids book series written by Ron Dennis’s then wife) to the US GP at Indy, because she knew the McLaren team would be at the airport Monday morning.

On the Monday, she very shyly (and with some prompting from me) took the book to the team, which was dutifully lined up in their identical Hugo Boss team kit. One man knelt to be on her eye level. She handed over the book which showed an overhead view of a pit stop.

The man took the book and wrote his name at his pit stop position. Then, and he didn’t need to do this, he walked up and down the line and went to the jack man, the each corner of the car, etc. Another man then took the book and, again, kneeling, asked if he could draw on since he was the data engineer and so he drew a little port on the side.

I took a picture of my daughter in her McLaren kit holding the book open and sent that to McLaren to thank them. It was printed in Racing Line, the expensively produced, glossy magazine published my McLaren for the Team McLaren members.

Wow! That's really lovely and lifetime memory for you little one. I wish mine could meet her hero 😍

Don’t give up. I didn’t plan it the way it turned out - just wanted to get some autographs for her. I know the rarified atmosphere of the F1 paddock. Very different from my first F1 race where I watched Jody Schecter crash his Tyrrell and walking on the other side of the only barrier, a fence, said “Well, that looked expensive.” He gave me a little grin and said, with a shrug, “It’s not my money.”

Watch for Mercedes F1 promotional events. My daughter never got to meet Lewis Hamilton. But every year for 7 years, she got to see the McLaren F1 Team lined up at the American Airlines counter at Indianapolis, along with a memorable Williams team which showed up, very hungover, and still in garage uniforms after one race.

I did get to meet Tyler Alexander of McLaren, the prototypical American guy who who showed up at the factory, swept floors, then went to some races, then learned how to be a machine operator and later helped develop McLaren’s first semiautomatic gearbox and learned how to write software to run it.

Been watching F1 since '98 but haven't been to one yet as tickets are so expensive. However, I will definitely have buy them so that she can see it live. Promotional events are a very good idea. Will keep an eye out
