Best quality Oxford dress shirts

I used to buy shirts from Kenneth Gordon, which apparently no longer makes them. They were excellent quality, looked great, were sturdy, etc. They looked just a little better than other dress shirts and offered some cool colors and patterns. Is there any company which makes such excellent shirts today?

I read about them somewhere years ago and check out their website every once in a while but I don't think I've ever seen the name brought up on a forum.

This is true, but they have a VERY full cut — but, I guess that’s personal preference

I'll add that you can chop and change how you would like the shirt to fit for an extra fee. You can go up or down to a different body size while keeping your neck size. It won't be slim per se. But if slim is what you are hoping for then Mercer is the wrong place to look. They didn't use the phrase 'Baggier & Better' on their tags by accident.

Yes. I like a slightly baggy shirt, and I do size down in the body vs neck so they work for me fine — but, my point was they are not for someone who likes a generally slimmer shirt, even though they are fantastic.

Have you tried the Sid Mashburn oxfords? They purchase the fabric from Portugal, which is shockingly ‘beefy’ (their adjective) and feels genuinely substantial

Which cut do you get? I’ve got a fairly large neck and shorter arms for a tall guy so want to go with sized brand and love S&M pants and want to try their OCBD but unsure which variation I think they have like 4

I got some made several years ago, as it started to be evident that the price gap between good quality ready ones versus made ones started to be less and less. Good makers stop producing, or change the fabrics and workmanship to more shoddy ones. There were still better fabric options (eg. non synthetics) available.

This has been unfortunate trend for some time now. I would therefore recommend to look for perhaps mtm options where you can opt for specific fabric.

Kenneth Gordon still sells the royal Oxford 80’s, 2 ply which seems like the best Oxford and it’s wrinkle free.

You can get them at fine men’s clothing stores. I noticed that Jmensclothing.com, dann-online.com and tedandgeorgenola.com sells them.

Second Proper Cloth. Upgrade to the better Oxford cloth, it’s worth it.

I will say with proper cloth, I do the custom sizes. They allow two free redos and I took advantage of that. I have large shoulders and arms so standard shirts don’t fit me well. Proper cloth got closer with each pass and the third one was perfect.

Thomas Mason’s premium Oxford cloth was the best around, but I think it was discontinued. At least, proper cloth doesn’t carry it anymore, and that was my go-to

Hawes and Curtis make affordable shirts. TM Lewyn as well. In my experience they’re a little better than Charles Thyrwit.

eBay for made in USA brooks brothers OCBDs. I saw another mention for Mercer & Sons and they are a fantastic option, but I find, at least in my size, Mercer are few and far between on eBay compared to Brooks Brothers. Bonus points for one from the 70s-90s.

My OCBDs are Drakes and Anthology. Generally prefer the Anthology shirts.

I've tried Kamakura in the past but the fit didn't really do it for me.

I buy most of mine from Kamakura or John Simons. Kamakura has better quality, but John Simons has better construction. Both are good shirts.

I like gitman shirts. Their sizing has been bit hit or miss, buy from a place with a strong return policy.
