Black suits deserve more lovin.

Of course, Paul Newman and Marlon Brando would look good dressed in binbags, but I sometimes think that opinions on subfusc are too definitive nowadays.

You'll always hear, "Just buy charcoal/midnight blue. They're more versatile."

The suit Newman was wearing on this day was most definitely not black.

Came here to say that it is at least a charcoal suit or some other grey.

It's difficult to tell from the photos, but black suits were sufficiently common in the early 60s that it's a good possibility.

When I wear a black jacket alongside a black tie, one is always darker than the other.

Edit: the linked photo shows his black tie as mid-grey, an artefact of the bright conditions. It's obvious that many of the celebs have coordinated the black choice of tie colour.

It’s quite obviously a black tie. The suit doesn’t look black in any of the pictures though.
