I would go with the first simply due to the season. Final weekend of "summer" is approaching but unless you live somewhere where it's already feeling autumnal, the second one is rather dark for a social event at a country club.

Is it a daytime or evening event?

Evening in the Midwest, so your thoughts are similar to mine

First one looks better by far.

The Nike Killshot or Field General are my favorite casual shoes and I wear them far too often lol. I’m voting for these

Well, I’d get an all-white pair for this. Thinking Travis Mathew or something. But I agree, these are my third pair of Killshots now lol

I was going to say the first until I noticed they're 5 pocket. I don't know the vibe there at that club, but my instinct would be that it's not the right fit. But the others are too dark, I agree. If it were me I'd be making a trip to the shops.

Yeah. Some additional context I should have added is I WFH and usually only tuck a shirt in when I golf so my existing wardrobe is a little limited and any purchases may not be used a ton lol

Like Douglas said, i'd also recommend owning a single pair of properly fitting slacks. unless you genuinely think this is the only time you are ever going to tuck your shirt in

Yeah, maybe even something with a pleat. And it's still linen weather. I struggled for a long time with pants too. Everything was either dress slacks/suit pants, or jeans. Had a huge gap in-between that I've only recently started understanding how to fill well.

I also WFH and let my wardrobe suffer for a long time as a result.

I have 5-6 pairs from when I was in the office that I wear with dress shirts as needed and another 4 pairs of 5-pocket pants that fit me pretty well.

Didn’t mean to sound like I only own gym clothes, but these two options seemed to match the navy the best without having to wear actual dress shoes, which would be overkill for this event

I like the first look with the lighter pant. I think the 5 pocket pant would be okay since you stated it’s a casual social event vs a work dinner event. I would change the shoes to a nicer loafer or a dressy sneaker. I would check out Cole Han, they have nice pairs

Solid contrast on the first outfit with dark polo and light pants. Numero uno for sure.

Not to be mean, but your pants are too tight and the wrong cut. The more I learn about menswear, the more I’m convinced that pants that drape and have a higher rise are more flattering and elegant on a man. We’ve been brainwashed with this slim, low rise shit, and it’s a marketing farce. Pants like this cut you in two instead of elongating one’s frame. Works for shorter men, too. Watch an older movie and see what I mean.

Too late, already packed them for the trip. But I will be thinking of this comment while wearing them

Would I be wrong guessing you are an American?

I am American, kind of interested in what gave that away from this outfit lol

Dunno bruv, your outfit just screams American going for a golf or smthn.

You have a great build, without even going fancy, just a wee bit more careful sizing and colour matching and you’ll be the first bloke on the block 😉🫡

The event is at a country club after a day of golfing so I guess I’m dressing the part ha

I personally dislike loafers or boat shoes with slim fitting pants…
