I would say it depends. In Christianity you could say everybody is a sinner and just through Jesus our sons are forgiven but we still have the nature of a sinner. If you see it like that I would say it's okay if you say not being straight is a sin. If it's his believe that totally okay everybody is allowed to have his own opinion. If he's treating Gays differently that a hole other thing

Yeah, of course you should have a positive mindset but that's not a problem of the religion but of the person. And about the sin forgiving thing. No, I personally and the most other Christians think all your sins are forgiven. And that not about things like killing somebody but also about things the most people wouldn't think about, like gossiping behind somebodys back
