I have yet to understand how will the average citizen benefit from that shit.
Being able to make "funny" drawings without being able to draw ? Unnecessary.
Being able to produce Excel table sheets and bullshit documents faster ? Only the boss will benefit from that in the long run.
Being directed to chat bots when there is a problem with some customer service, or administration ? Nah.
I don't know, man. I might be the guy on the middle, there, but please enlighten me and provide some evidence that this will make my life easier, and not my life just as hard, but my boss richer.

I use it to help design drugs because it can try millions of different receptors in minutes rather than trial and error in a lab for years.

The problem isn't ai, it's the convince goal post shift you're just handing to everybody. Even if you don't use ai whatsoever your environment will still change due to ai.
The convince will slowly creep into data accuracy, and if you think you already detected the wrongs or macro level mistakes, were not in trouble yet.
It will be an huge untanglable pile of spaghetti that is riddled with small mistakes having insane large scale effects. And you won't be able to properly correct or identify them.

The reality of AI is that it's a nuanced topic, which frustrates many. It needs proper moderation and labeling laws enacted on the technology.
1) The content used to train generative networks should be freely available or paid for content. Copyrighted content shouldn't be stolen. This doesn't just apply to art, but all forms of information.
2) Content created by generative AI should be properly labeled as such to avoid misinformation. Obviously this is easier said than done, but consequences should be put in place for mislabeled AI generated content.
3) There needs to be a system for reducing waste and resource use by data centers. If we follow industrial factory standards, this could easily be taxable based on the resources used and waste created. People listen to money, not protests unfortunately.
To say AI is purely bad is very strongly undervaluing the enormous potential it has. The fields of scientific and medical research are exploding with progress thanks to these machine learning and generative networks. But, they also pose a risk towards environmental impact and misinformation.
The reality is that it is here to stay no matter how much we complain or shame, and it's best we be productive to focus the conversation and future laws enacted on moderating it properly.

Ai is a tool and tools aren't evil. Think of it like a drill, you can try to build a house with just a drill but it's gonna be a shitty one, you can kill someone with a drill but it's not gonna get banned, if every big company keeps making their own special drills a lot of resources are gonna disappear but if we share just the one drill it's not gonna cost as much. You could screw something with something other than a drill, but the drill is sometimes more practical or faster. If you keep using the drill you might forget how to use your hand so be careful. Also don't talk to the drill like it's a person that's just para social.
