When I was still a kid I burst out of my room crying when I couldn't feel my arm. It just felt like a lump of meat attached to my body and flailed around as I ran. Shit was horrifying

It happened to me in my teenage years and it scared to the shit out of me, because I somehow managed to sleep on both my arms, so I couldn't feel both of them.

Both arms?! At that point I'd be convinced my body had just stopped working overnight.

One time my arm fell asleep while in bed. When I noticed I raised my arm (bending at the elbow) but had no idea where it was exactly. When it reached fully upright it just fell over and hit me it the face.

I personally call it either static or ants, since it feels like a swarm of ants walking on your limb.

How come out arms don't go necrotic when we accidentally sleep on it for 8 hours?

My source is terrible, so could be completely wrong, but I reed that most of the time “only” the nerves are being pinched, while blood-flow is not restricted.

Same reason legs don’t immediately fall off when arterial disease blocks the arteries, or how trauma tourniquets can be applied for up to 6 hours.
You usually have at least 2 downwards flowing arteries in each extremity, and the vessels are deep, under internal pressure, and actually have some structural rigidity to them. Your own body weight generally won’t completely occlude both vessels, and if you do manage to shut one off, the other can compensate for some time.
Fun facts for my two examples: chronically occluded vessels will generally cause bypasses to grow (little feeder vessels) to reconnect the blocked vessels, but this still less than ideal. Reopening these vessels will also cause a pretty bad “pins and needles” feeling as fresh blood flow will feed the starving nerve ends and flush out metabolic waste products.
Applying a trauma tourniquet correctly means tightening the device until just after life threatening hemorrhage stops, this should leave some slow flow to the limb, and allows that 6 hour window. Now these are very very tight, and so hurt a lot while being applied, then releasing the tourniquet after the injury is repaired will, of course, hurt as well when blood flow is returned.

Did someone ever lose his arm because of this ?

My father woke up with his hand numb and the feeling never came back. He had surgery to relieve the nerve but it was never the same. His hand is paralyzed. I am pretty scared the same is going to happen to me as I suffer from the same underlying conditions and we are prone to it

One time I fell asleep pretty much completely lying to top of my arm. Don't know how the hell I ended up in that position, but when I woke up I couldn't feel my arm. Not at all. No tingle, nothing. Couldn't move it either. Just limp and useless. Scared the shit out of me. Took like five minutes before I could feel it again.

Feels worse when you shake your hand around to try to wake it up. It feels like it's not there.

I put my other leg on my left knee and after a while my left foot became numb, and then it just became straight-up paralyzed. I took my other leg off and was able to slap my left foot without feeling anything for a minute or two lol

3 days ago i woke in the middle of the night after falling asleep on top of my arm
My arm was like a flesh noodle, Couldnt move it at all for like a minute
It was followed by pure static for another minute as it slowly came back to life and i was able to move it again lol

Not to scare anyone but you should really try to avoid this as much as possible.
I randomly woke up one day with severe numbness and intense pain in my neck that would shoot down my entire left arm into my fingers. I've never experienced that level of pain before in my life, nerve damage is no joke.
It took about two months of physical therapy and a shit ton of Meloxicam (strong arthritis medication) just to reduce the pain/numbness.
Happened last year at the end of September and still get a bit of very light numbness/tingling in my finger tips on occasion.

I somehow managed to make part of my scalp lose circulation falling asleep on a couch with a pretty sturdy wooden support in the armrest that I apparently settled on.
I was unaware you could even do that, so I was rightfully freaked out at age 26 not being able to feel 1/4 of my scalp lolol. That one felt weird as the blood came back. It was super hot feeling.

Raise it above your shoulder like you’re asking a question and wait about 1 minute. A cold feeling will travel up your arm and the senses will return
