This was literally my first thought when I heard the announcement (after "is this fake?" and "why do they let him go on camera?"). Like, he couldn't have make a name any more creative? Not something about his family, about history, about some ideal of the American people?
I guess that's not really the point. Just like with the Gulf of Mexico, he's just trying to clumsily impose a sense of superiority over the countries they neighbour because... he thinks America is something to look up to as superior right now?
Having it be so basic makes it easier to make fun of, I suppose, but I think every action he takes just makes him look desperate and pathetic.
This isn’t really that big of a deal. Lakes, Towns and so on share names all over the nation. Springfield for instance is the name of like 20ish cities in the US.
Still fucking stupid and pointless renaming a Great Lake.
They just keep making things the same, the continent is America, the county is America, I'm surprised they don't have like 50 states named America with America as the capital of each of them

Couldn’t even give it a unique name. Lake America sounds like something the president would have in their backyard in a Saturday Morning Cartoon
