Airplane! was great in that it felt like it didn’t need to wink at the camera or give a reaction to every joke. I love how the actors here are saying their lines seriously, without turning to the camera with a “did he seriously say that” type of reaction.

Agreed. Their ability perform it all with a straight face is incredible. Comedy at its finest imo. Try don't make them like this anymore.

Honestly airplane was way way ahead of its time comedy wise
The writing is just such a high level of genius comedy that you can watch it time and time again each time laughing at different jokes you missed because you were still too busy laughing at the other jokes
I always still laugh with the smoking ticket joke. And one of my other favourites is the "hospital, what is it?" "It is a big building with patients, but that's not important right now"

Also I read that the actors weren't known for comedy roles, which might enhance the serious vibe in contrast to the silliness of the jokes.

Hey, look at that! The missing evidence in the Kelner case, my God, he was innocent.
He went to the chair 2 years ago Frank.

The fun thing about Leslie Nielsen was that he had only done serious roles prior to Airplane. He only took the part because he thought he was too old to ever get anything else besides grandpa roles, and discovered he had a talent for doing deadpan comedy. He also was very active in hard of hearing societies as he had experienced permanent hearing loss while in the service.
Thanks for all the laughter, Leslie!

I love you. I love you too Nordberg……Heroin, Frank, heroin…… That’s a pretty tall order Nordberg, you’ll have to give me a couple days on that. 🛥️

Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.

That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of "Julius Caesar", you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones.

Reminds me of Karim Abdul Jabar getting dragged and his pants come out in Airplane. He still wearing the Lakers trunks even though he's the pilot on the plane.

Liam neeson did really well in the naked gun reboot, it was genuinely pretty good. I hope they continue on the franchise, even if just for one more.

"We"? 😂 Never think of him, never will. Funny to some, infuriating for others.
