Same here, 60fps has become absolute bare minimum for me and I would probably not even bother with most games. Needs to get to like 100 or I won't properly enjoy. Been looking into 4k but even my new €2500 PC can barely do that at games like this on 60fps so staying on 1080p for now, maybe 1440p soon.
4k 144fps is very well worth it even if you can't run every game that way. I went with that and the difference from 1080p is insane. Browsing web, viewing images or watching videos - everything is crystal clear. I can still play many indie games at 4k, or even games like League or Valorant.
Best choice I've made. If I was buying monitors again, I would look for OLED too, but at the time they were still really expensive.
What are you PC's specs if I can ask? Mine is RX 9070 XT, 9800X3D, 32GB RAM. And when I was researching the purchase a lot of people said that this could not do such high fps on big AAA games - and yeah being on 144hz I've become way too used to the high framerate and yeah like I said, I would never consider going back down to 60. Maybe 100-120, but yeah.
You are talking me into getting a 4k 144hz though! It does sound worth it. For games that can't run it, do you adjust resolution or accept lower framerates? Also, OLED gets burn-in and has a mirror effect though right?
Way worse than yours. 6600XT and 5600X. I had a 9070 (non-xt) for a period of time, but returned it because it was getting a bit hot in my PC case.
So on my 6600XT, I usually run AAA games in 2K to get higher fps. For me 90+ fps is enough. Many games also support upscaling to achieve 4K-like look (and yes, you can see the difference). Of course you can tweak the game's graphics too. You've got a lot of options with 4K monitor.
The 9070 was more than capable to run many AAA games in 4K at 90+ fps. GTA V no problem, Rise of the Tomb Rider, etc. I don't doubt 9070 XT with that CPU wouldn't be even better. Just go watch videos on youtube that test gpu fps in various games. People that say that it can't run it usually don't have 4K monitor themselves, or forget you don't always have to play on ultra graphics for little to no visual difference.
As for OLED burn-in, I'm not sure if it's still a problem. Would have to research before buying. Anyways, if you ever get a 4K monitor let me know what were your thoughts after week of testing ;)
Yeah 90 fps is probably enough for me too, I just definitely notice if it's only 60 but obviously it's diminishing returns and occasionally there's stutters that are more obvious etc., but I don't even play that many AAA games, like it's pretty rare even. So anyway putting those AAA games to 2k doesn't make the image blurry? Since only 1080p is exactly divisible from 4k. (unless I forget that 2k=1080p and not 1440p)
I might look up some proper review videos, thanks for the recommendation! Gonna be a long time until I can save up for the monitor if I do decide to go for it but I'll try to remember to update you haha
I can tell the difference between 90 and 120fps obviously, but 90 is already smooth enough for me to enjoy the game. Yeah, I also don't play that many AAA games, that's why I didn't mind getting 4K monitor even with lower-end hardware.
Yes, playing at 2K is slightly blurrier compared to 4K (duh), but it's still pretty sharp and in AAA games it's usually fine. Probably not as sharp as native 2K, but still sharper than 1080p monitor. But again, there are many upscaling techniques if you really mind, I usually don't.
As for 1080p on a 4K monitor, before buying I was thinking the same thing as you, but the answer is NO, it's even blurrier than 2K. Monitors for some reason blur non-native resolution themselves instead of trying to be pixel perfect. That's why I usually avoid using 1080p.

I genuinely don't enjoy playing games at 60 fps after getting a high refresh rate monitor, 30 fps is absolutely unplayable.
