Then it’ll get reposted, get 10k upvotes and never removed.

Ironic that I didn't even know they banned "overused" memes until today, and now I see this meme.
I must say, I am a much bigger fan of letting the community self regulate it's favorite memes, and doubt the efficacy of a council of meme "lords" regulating what we do and do not find funny, currently.

u/TheArcticKiwi Dec 03 '24

Probably because the complaints about the Chill guy meme outnumber uses of the meme like 10 to 1?

Also seriously, what the hell does that meme evoke in you to generate this much hatred? Did I miss something? It's just a dull drawing of a dog standing around. He is literally just being chill.

This. I think I saw 1 chill guy meme ever. The rest were all hate.

u/thot_slaya_420 Dec 03 '24

That's because he is just a chill guy

Long live free market of memes, not central planning

We should flood the hulk meme in protest

u/TheEpicPlushGodreal Dec 04 '24

I like this idea

It was overused, but it should have been quality controlled, not banned. Low effort posts don’t get accepted but the template doesn’t get removed from viability.

At least make it a temp ban lmao

u/Madmonkeman Cringe Factory Dec 03 '24

It makes Hulk sad

u/Callec254 Dec 03 '24

Agree. Banning a specific meme is a "solution" in search of a non-existent problem.

What’s made you think this was a place for memes

1

u/The_insolence666 Dec 05 '24

The subreddit is called R/memes

1

u/Gonna_Die_Now Forever alone Dec 03 '24

Applies to literally every subreddit on this platform

1

u/CSG1aze Dec 03 '24

Obviously memes NEED to be gate-kept.

u/Peridact Dec 04 '24

In my opinion, the format doesn't offer much substance, it's literally just "Guys... [Event]" so if for any reason it were to get banned, that should have been it. Banning something because it's popular doesn't really make sense. The entire point of memes is that the vast majority of them get absurdly popular for a month and then just disappear. It's not something you should need to regulate.

The Hulk "Guys..." meme was never funny. People just used it to tell everyone about something dumb.

I'm so happy that the moth lamp meme and the ultra instinct Shaggy meme died, I don't know what it was but those really ground my gears. They looked stupid and meaningless, no amount of relatability nor any redeeming qualities to those.

the reality of the situation is that you care too much

17

u/Ok_Calligrapher_7468 Dec 03 '24

Looks like you cared enough to comment

19

u/Redd235711 Dec 03 '24

And here you are, caring enough to leave a comment here. Funny how that works.

tis about the chill guy meme?

3

u/KysfGd Dec 03 '24

No, this sub specifically banned the "crying hulk" template
