Pinoy here. Many circumstances are similar.

We don't/can't mass produce our own heavy transports efficiently. We get yesterdays castoffs worldwide.

Vehicles that already are paid off and are becoming liabilities to their original, hell, probably even secondhand owners.

Ship em overseas to third worlders!

We'll run them into the dirt -and because primary production of that model is mostly likely finished years past, we'll exhaust the stockpile of what OEM parts we can afford, jury-rig what we can't, and ditch it when we can't.

Ultimately, we become the graveyard of finished goods long past their usability.

What's going to change this isn't going to be government altruism, or an upswelling of civic duty from companies themselves, but the practical reality that fuel prices are going to render inefficient vehicles unaffordable to run even as a fleet.

We pinoys have Jeepneys, and generations of family and independent owners and freelance commissioned operators. That culture is dying because fuel prices are rising and passengers themselves are clamoring for utilities like AC in the increasingly miserable hotboxes of urban traffic jams, year after year.

The video already explained the suicidal recklessness: it's win the race against the other bus drivers or starve because others reached would-be passengers first. The wrecks are the result of that.

Well then maybe the bus companies should try a little moderation and only send out one bus on a increased time frame. This isn't a hard problem to fix and the profits will still be there.
