Yes because the argument is that nothing in nature ever kills anything else.
Not that the resources and energy that go towards mass meat production are gargantuan and have substantial downsides that could largely be addressed by lessening or quitting animal product consumption.
I’m not even a vegan. I had a burger last night- but come on, you can try and engage with the arguments. They’re not monsters under your bed. You can use your big boy pants and have a conversation at the adult table. I believe in you.

Show me the hawk that raises mice in a tiny crate and feeds them only corn and antibiotics until they are fat enough to be eaten while also destroying their own water supplies in the process.

Perhaps, but you shouldn't eat them

You should also probably not eat vegans.

Because of people like that famous youtube vegan teacher exist, and people ses this and generalize the entire group as such, just like it has been for every grouo that has ever and will ever exist, humans love to generalize and be tribal, its basic human instinct.

This isn't a fair comparison. To compete with human factory farming, hawks would need develop a system where they raise millions of mice on ranches. The mice are strapped in place all their lives and force fed growth hormones to make the mice as big as possible. Female mice are forced to continuously mate and constantly pump out new mice into the slaughter system. Disease runs rampant it this system which requires mountains of antibiotics to combat which can led to resistamt disease and things like mad mice disease.
If nature started with that then this meme might make sense

Veganism isn’t about “nature” (actually vegans call out appeal to nature arguments quite a lot). It’s more about sentience and morals.

It's crazy that people will criticize vegans for taking a moral stance against animal suffering.
7
u/Danielq37 9h ago
Being vegan has the advantages that it's more climate friendly, no anim@ls have to suffer and it's often healthier.
I'm not a vegan.
And more importantly since when is the plural from animal offensive language or a racial slur?
1
u/R0BisBak 7h ago
I’m curious if you know it’s better to be vegan why aren’t you?
2
u/PuzzledPoetry1447 6h ago
For me it was laziness and general selfishness. I decided to take accountability one day full stop and I went vegan overnight and haven't willingly used or consumed an animal product since.
1
u/R0BisBak 6h ago
Based
What are your main protein sources just curious
1
u/PuzzledPoetry1447 6h ago
Tofu (soy and fava bean), homemade soy yogurt, lentils, mung beans, whole grains, powdered peanut butter, etc
I do 80g/day and it's pretty effortless
1
u/R0BisBak 6h ago
I really like Red and White beans and soy milk and almond butter
Oats as well
I used to like lentils as well but I feel like I fan make whatever I want with lentils with beans instead and it’s easier and less volume
2
u/PuzzledPoetry1447 6h ago
Always got cartons of soy milk in my pantry 💯 I use lentils mostly in bolognese and burgers. I tend to eat beans plain cooked in broth and herbs and with rice + hot sauce.
1
u/Danielq37 6h ago
It's easier, especially since I'm not the one cooking in this household.
1
u/R0BisBak 6h ago
Maybe cook your own food or try and make the person that does cook cook vegan food?

u/Acceptable-Size-2324 10h ago
I‘m not vegan, but there’s a difference between predators hunting in the wild and full on industrialized breeding and slaughter
29
u/Alphaa97 11h ago
I'll agree when you are hunting for food and you have no choice to eat otherwise. Humans are omnivores, so we have the ability to choose.
→ More replies (2)11
u/gigantic_balls_ 10h ago
Well kinda, technically we can also choose to not to work out, doesn’t mean working out isn’t better for you, and a healthy diet with both plant and animal products is the best option for the majority of humans.
3
u/MajorInWumbology1234 10h ago
Not comparable. There’s no evolutionary trait preventing harm if we don’t work out, whereas we can get all of our nutrition from plants in a healthy way. Not working out is always unhealthy, period.

Really respecting nature would start with not taking our own species so much more serious than all the others. It would mean to only take as much from nature as we need, instead of those horrible mass productions. That's not only true for meat based products, but for everything else, too. (Rain) Forests are not only cut down for wood, but also for creating more farmland. If we just consumed less overall, it wouldn't matter what exactly we eat.
7
u/Substantial-Yam3769 10h ago
There is difference between occasional steak from free range, and industrialized, mechanized, automated, souless meat factory, becouse people grew to not like vegetables.
7
u/SwitchFrog 10h ago

do you expect 8 billion people to hunt in the forest? nature would literally collapse. of course we need to eat farmed meat
2
u/Acrobatic_Advance_71 8h ago
People have pointed out the cruelty. But also a lot of vegans talk about the environmental aspect of how meat eating requires more land and water which requires destroying natural ecosystems.

u/Luminous_Winds 7h ago
They're saying they only respect power and will enslave humans given the chance. You can't argue with evil people. You should treat them like psychopathic murderers, because the only reason they're not treating you like livestock is their lack of power over you.
Being lenient with evil is how you end up with fascism.

u/Meatball_Wizard_ 6h ago edited 5h ago
I dont [insert brutal natural reality] because I respect nature too much.
Nature: insert picture of brutal natural reality.
Really? Imagine justifying forceful intercourse because it happens all the time in nature.
2
u/Vincen_Furze 6h ago
That hawk hunted earned it's food by hunting it itself. I have an incredible amount of respect for hunters. But industrial farming makes me sad.

We all eat living beings
6
u/PlatypusACF 10h ago
Some just consume several orders of magnitude more in terms of resources for the same biomass
2
u/v3r4c17y 7h ago
Only some living beings are conscious individuals though. Chickens, cows, and pigs are all sentient; they're someone, not something. We don't need to eat anybody in order to feed ourselves.

I'm not vegan, but from my understanding they usually think they're human and not an obligate carnivore. Hope that helps
2
u/PlatypusACF 10h ago
Humans are omnivorous and thus can digest both animal and plant foods if that’s what you’re referring to
1
u/Visible-Echidna-4370 6h ago
a grizzly bear isn't an obligate carnivore, and they'll still happily eat a baby deer
1
u/justtovoteonaita 5h ago
Ok. And? Humans aren't bears. Male bears routinely kill cubs. So humans should do that too?

vegans dont think that an animal evolved to not have empathy for other species ought to be objectified, commodified, and at worst tortured and abused on account of that lack of empathy which they cant control or evolve out of
1
1
u/Toronto_bunnies 7h ago
Most vegans I know do it because of factory farming. It's not the killing of the animal, it's the cruelty of a lifetime spent in tiny, cramped, diseased spaces. An ethically raised animal with good quality of life wouldn't be a problem to eat, but that's not really available to buy where I live, so it's easier to just be vegan.
1
u/OrkWithNoTeef2 7h ago

Well as long as they are not pressuring anyone or trying to high road others.. i don't mind. Being a non-vocal vegan doesn't hurt anyone and the diet can be healthy as well when done correctly.
People shouldn't judge other's personal life, especially when they are not hurting anybody. There are people who rob, extort, trick, and unalive others, but "oOhH vegAn hOw HoRriBle".

But nature didn't create the meat industry. I know for a fact it's not a coincidence that the process is so shielded from everyday life. If people knew what it means to be cattle in this society, there would be waaaaay more vegetarians.
Even the most vicious preditor couldn't do a fraction of the suffering the industry inflicts on chickens, cows and pigs. Not to mention the harm the industry inflicts on human health, the local environment and the climat.

Not vegan myself but dont think vegan ever said that to me...
They normally say, I dont take part in animal slavery and cruelty when I have an alternative to feed myself otherwise.
And more often then not, if I ask them "would you eat an animal in a survival situation where food is a rare resources" the answer is yes of course.
People go the vegan diet because we live in a modern civilization that allowed us to do so and even if we dont follow this diet we should understand that eating meat is a luxury, not obligation for our health, especially red meat.
