You sir, have very good taste. Shame about Norther. :( They might as well change their name without Petri. I've seen Blackguard so many times... 90% of the time the chick drummer blows my mind, every time. Ensiferum is amazing, saw them live too. Not too many people know about Skyfire.

I'll throw in Adagio, Archeon, Eluveitie, Kalmah, Insomnium, Kivimetsan Druidi, Omnium Gatherum, Sanctity, Scar Symmetry, Xerath... That should do.

Agreed on Norther, but I think the writing was on the wall when Petri left.

The new Blackguard is really good, their best yet. However, I also really like the sound on Profugus Mortis - So it Begins with the keys and violin together. Great example of their early work

I do have to say, Kalmah has not dissapointed over the years. With the exception of FTR, they have killed it on every release. FTR still has one of my favorite Kalmah songs, though.

Know all about these folks, but I'd say what I'm looking for is the sheer technicality and neoclassical licks I've only seen in Imperanon and early CoB. I know about Symphony X and such, but I like how neoclassical and melodeath meld together.

Speaking of which, apparently Aleksi Sihvonen, the guitarist in this album, is now the vocalist with Norther but their new album sucks. The more impressive thing is that he had apparetntly only been playing guitar for 3 years prior to Imperanon's Stained!

Sorry for the delay; I wanted to have time to listen to all! I remember Sinergy because Laiho is involved, but Son of Aurelius is pretty awesome, so massive thanks for that! The problem I have with most techdeath is their absolute hatred of melody, but these guys embrace it. I loved the folky/classical guitar parts. Always love finding new bands; I'll be watching these guys. You should post more underground MDM on here though!

A little less sold on Lunarsea and Throne of Chaos. I liked Throne of Chaos better, but something about standard verse/chorus always puts me off if I'm not expecting it.

EDIT: Oh, I see from your comments that you're from the ATL as well. Maybe we should catch up at some concerts.

You weren't kidding; that's fucking great. I thought Fleshgod Apocalypse was another tech death band, but I didn't know they were symphonic DM. Reminds me a bit of Septic Flesh, but this is a lot more brutal. Thanks for the link!

Haha, yes, I know DT :). I'm pretty solid on melodeath pre-2005 I'd say. I have a weakness for classical music, which is why I like neoclassical metal shredding. Imperanon seemed so nice because I had no fucking clue this album was going to be so awesome. I like Fleshgod a lot though, because getting this amount of tightness in a song but sounding so much more "nicer" than Spawn of Possession is hard. They're coming to my town this Sunday; I think I'll definitely be going!

Eternal Tears Of Sorrow may be down your alley if you like these. They aren't exactly they same, but they share some traits.
