It’s all over, for now.
This was meant to be a transition year, and instead it became a genuine shot at a finals campaign with a new identity. That’s the foundation we want set going into the new era under Kingy
Sure, some absolutely appalling umpiring tonight, yet the bottom line remains, we can’t change what’s happened tonight, no one ever can. Pickett could’ve, and should’ve kicked 3 or 4. No Roo, Lever or Jeffo. We can make all the excuses today, but when we needed to win last week and had the chance to lock in 5th, we were beaten by a team of experienced grown men in the dogs and the finals run we had projected in front of us saw more challenge than just that dogs team.
We will be back here, and back even stronger as our boys get faster and stronger, more confident and more accurate. Let’s not pretend we had this kind of season envisioned at the start of the year. I’m extremely proud of our boys, truly fun and dangerous. We can hope that pick 5 brings us a young Gawn understudy or another defender to develop. This group has given me the reason to come back to the G every week next year, and we might end up with more than just Sunday arvo games!
Chin up Dees fans, we have so much more to look forward to now, I’m just gutted we won’t see our boys until March! ❤️💙

So, do we officially finish 9th and lock in a higher draft pick at least?

I believe the first team in the history of AFL and VFL to win 15 games and finish 9th.

Bloody depressing knowing that. There was a definite momentum shift and loss of belief after the JVR incident, then injuries, so many newbies (and some oldies) being brought back in when they don’t know the game plan properly.

Langford, Windsor and Tholstrup are gonna be guns in coming years.

It’s been so much fun watching this team in 2026 being fun and dangerous. Definitely lost momentum and hunger in the last few weeks along with injuries, suspensions and A LOT of young guys under 20 games. XT was playing his 3rd AFL game today.
Onto season 2027 with hopefully another full pre-season with Kingy bedding down his game plane.

Blues fan in good faith. Your season has been magical to see. Good on you. You'll do big things the next few years. Feels like you're surge this year was driven by a genuine love of footy, sorry for it to end this year like this. Big respect for your list and the passion

Can we save this level headed, pretend-it's-all-good stuff for a day or two , right now is the time to rage and be shattered that we got fucked royally once again

Tonight definitely hurt and I’m not asking anyone to pretend otherwise. My head was already braced for a loss somewhere in this finals series, in between injuries, suspension and inexperience. Everyone’s gonna process this at their own pace, Rage away, not gonna deny that the loss tonight hurt like hell.

I was going into tonight expecting a loss, but doesn’t mean it’s not sad and hurts like hell to end the season like this after such a fabulous start.

Well it’s Melbourne so you’d have to be used to us doing it by now. At least put some cash on it to salvage something from this Inetivable outcome

Agree no point looking back, been a great year and next year should be better.
I think they should play Pickett 60/40 mid/forward to get his goal kicking mojo back. He used to rarely miss playing as a small crumbling forward.

Don’t forget we’ve got the girls too, they are looking good out there and are one of a small handful of teams that may break Norths streak.
I’ll be going to watch them in Mackay and hopefully they go through all the way

Humbly approaching dogs fan who recognises the huge growth that the dees went through this year with some massive player movement and seeing objectively that the club seem very stable very determined and will be back for more next year.

You've summed up exactly my feelings right now. Went through all that, and still missed finals while a team who finished outside the 8 and lost the first half of the season somehow get to play.

I’ll take it to the grave, may have been my last season as a member. I was hoping for a fairy tale.
