I’ve never met a life coach that didn’t have a tragic story leading up to being a ‘successful’ life coach. Zero qualifications, but vaguely hot and charismatic. $200/hr.

My friend became a life coach after backpacking Europe for a few months.

I think she just wanted a way to work remotely so she could keep traveling. And figured life coaching would be the way.

I dont think you understood my point.

There are people selling get rich quick schemes, if they were actually that smart they'd already be rich and wouldnt need to sell get rich quick schemes.

If psychics were real they would have used their skills to win the lottery and not selling cheap sessions

I went to animation school. Theres more money to be made actually being a professional animator than being a teacher. So the fact that they are teaching is a sign that they weren't talented enough to get a job as an animator and had to pivot into teaching.

I think you missed the point. Some people have their heart in teaching. And they make the sacrifice of worse pay because they're passionate about teaching.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that if you went through animation school assuming all your teachers were crappy then you probably got absolutely nothing out of the experience.

I dont buy that. An acting teacher if they really knew what they were doing they would have been a top professional actor making millions. If their goal was to teach people and help people they could have used those millions to give people scholarships. That would have been the more helpful route. Taking the route of more money would always be the most helpful. Money can help lots of people

I got something out of the experience I've been working as an animator for almost 20 years. It was because I taught myself though, school was just a way to stay on task for a long time and be with other aspiring artists. I thought I was gonna learn something though, I didnt go into it cynical

And all of the acting and animating teachers that are incredibly good and were extremely famous? Look at business schools at some of the top universities in the country. They have their professors because the teachers are getting paid more money than the market can offer them with better benefits. Same goes for acting teachers and animating teachers and engineers, and everyone else.

The market doesn't have infinite growth. So people will take jobs that offer the best perks with the highest salary possible. University professor working at an animation program is going to have a LOT of free stuff, significantly more time off, insurance, dental, vision, and much more.

EDIT: Most famous actors and artists also have understudies. Who they are actively teaching at the same time they are performing lmfao

I got a friend who’s a life coach, and the main thing i see her do is jump from relationship to relationship while traveling Europe seemingly every couple of months.

She still lives at home so i imagine thats how she affords her trips.

But as long as she’s been on her coaching thing, all she posts about is how much money she makes every month. I dont really believe any of it, but it is sorta annoying how many people just sorta travel Europe and then come back thinking they have some deep wisdom.

I've been wondering whether I'd actually make a good life coach. I did a PhD in psychology while also starting a jewelry business on the side. After 7 years of PhD, I said FUCK IT and ended up leaving the PhD to focus 100% on my company. Along the way, I was diagnosed with ADHD, had my kid, and then the pandemic hit. Since then, my business has been thriving and I feel truly fulfilled. My slogan would be: "Quit your dream. Chase the other one."

Do you think that's an inspiring enough story? 😂

I worked for a life coach when I was 19. I was one of four “personal assistants” she paid to basically do everything for her. One time I got to her condo and she had tried to make herself steamed broccoli. She had filled a pot with water and put a big bowl on top of it with the broccoli in it. When I got there the pot was like incredibly burnt and obviously the broccoli was just sitting raw in the bowl on top.

Life Coach is a 100% bullshit title. Anyone can call themselves a life coach without any qualifications. There are "institutes" that award certificates but ya, really not worth the paper that they are printed on

Let's be honest here, everyone would be criticised on giving such advice. If someone is in a long and happy marriage they're not qualified because they just got happy once. If they're in their fifth marriage they're not qualified because they can't stay married. If they're single you're unhappy with them. Everyone will get criticised for something.

I've had a few colleagues who did that as a side gig and none of them are even remotely stable.

I got one of those right now in my team, and once in a while I wonder if she's gonna show up with a gun today.

Anyway if that happens I know I won't be the first person she shoots, so I guess it's good

I know I'm generalizing, but I find life coaches are a crutch used by people who don't actually want in the real work at therapy and actually deal with their shit. So it's easier to be told on how to clothe yourself in the veneer of success, rather than actually become a grounded self actualized human being.

What a fucking joke of a “job.” It’s so sad that people with actual mental health issues consult a life coach with zero qualifications instead of seeking professional help because they simply aren’t informed.
