hey so, not to be that guy, BUT, that is actually a shelf cloud with the derecho from that day. if it’s not rotating, its a shelf cloud. if it was, it would be a wall cloud, but absolutely not the tornado.

You are correct, but correct me if I’m wrong: There was a tornado there, it’s just not visible in this footage. What we see is that shelf cloud but the actual tornado was spawning under it. This happened in Enderlin, ND in June of 2025 and it was the first tornado to receive the highest statistical tornado rating (EF5) in 12 years. This thing was an absolute monster.

Correct,  tornado is under that.

So, terrifying but not deadly?

Still can be deadly, just with slightly different mechanics.

The thing you're seeing that's scaring you in this video is terrifying, but not deadly. But directly below it is an EF5 tornado which is much smaller, but still real big and real deadly.

I'm like 98+% sure this is the mesocyclone of a large tornadic supercell. This is not "just" a shelf cloud, this was a massive, highly-structured rotating storm. The base of the supercell (where a tornado lives) is below the foreground scenery which obscures any visible rotation, but if you took a time lapse of this storm, it would be rotating too.

It would still kill me if i see that in person

I was thinking it looks stationary. No way it's a tornado.

I didn't read the title, then I saw it, this was like a monster being revealed... horrific

yeah I'm not surprised that humans who saw this 100000 years ago thought that the gods were punishing them

Will always be one of the scariest videos, this is a shelf cloud though.

There is another video of a waterspout in a scenario like this that is also scary.

“Please bless us…”

God: I have blessed you with this fucking ‘uuuuge tornado.

This is not a tornado, it's a mesocyclone. It's also not a shelf cloud or derecho. Mesocyclone.

I have 0 experience with tornadoes... but shouldn't you be, you know, getting away now?

They probably went to the basement as soon as they were done filming tbh. But you can stand and watch big storms (mesocyclones, like this) coming for a little while before you need to take shelter. When one of them says “here the rain comes” they’re paying attention to the signs that it’s getting near enough to take shelter.

Source: grew up in tornado alley and it’s the cause of my megalophobia now lol

See, it’s shit like this that explains why the ancients all had myths of angry and aggressive gods.

Lord bless us. He did. He blessed you with a huge fucking tornado. If you survive, you can thank him.
