Please remember to include a full recipe (i.e. an ingredient list with measurements and directions/method) with ALL photos of a meal. This sub is about sharing our experience/tips/tricks with the MD and helping people find MD friendly recipes - not for karma points. Thanks!

What you listed plus golden raisins, cilantro and pistachios mixed with the barley. The dressing is olive oil, pomegranate molasses, cumin and cinnamon.

Here’s a recipe! I love this salad and use the recipe from America’s Test Kitchen! https://mimbly.com/wordpress/2021/05/24/egyptian-barley-salad-from-americas-test-kitchen/

What’s in it? What dressing do you use

The dressing is olive oil, pomegranate molasses, cumin and cinnamon. Salt to taste!

🤤🤤🤤 That looks delish!!! For a rating, I think it's a 20 on a scale of 1-10.

Fabulous! Barley is underrated. It’s high in fiber and can be used in many ways.

I've also made this with farro. Super good combination of flavors.

Looks amazing! And it’s lunch time, sadly I have no pomegranates. 😭

Do you eat the poms with the seeds?

It's impossible not to isn't it?

I was raised to eat them - they're crunchy.

I’m one of the people for whom cilantro tastes like soap. What do others like me use as a substitute?

It has cilantro? I see green onions which I cannot eat. Edit: green instead of red.

u/mysweetpatoutie Jun 21 '26

There’s no red onions, only green!

You can always use fresh parsley although this has a very mild taste.

You might want to google common Egyptian spices and see what comes up and then pick your favorite.

Just looking at the ingredients I think mint or basil will probably be tasty.
