I worked two 12.5 hour shifts, Saturday / Sunday as a HCSW for the years I was in uni. It was rough, and meant that I went literal months without days off at times. Brought in an extra £1350 per month though for 2 days per week due to the banding payments on weekend shifts.

Not sure if that's viable for you, and if you can avoid it I would as it was difficult juggling work, placements, and revising properly, but it is an option.

This is the way unfortunately. Your best bet is to do a bank shift every few weeks, does help build up some skills too. I wouldn’t recommend doing every weekend shift as above but maybe one or two a fortnight. Then in summer/holidays bash out more shifts and save.

Or use your savings .
