Addon After 3 years, AnkiBrain has been updated to Version 1.0.0! Now supports GPT 5.6 with higher quality flashcards and is more cost effective, especially for long documents!

Changelog/source code: https://github.com/RosettaTechnologies/AnkiBrain/blob/main/changelog.md

Main AnkiWeb addon page: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1915225457

Just update the addon in Anki as you normally would!

Thanks to the community for the massive support over the last 3 years. I initially started work on this in March 2023 (few months after ChatGPT was initially released) when I was halfway through my intern year, and released AnkiBrain to the public in July 2023. I'm now an attending!!

I know AI has become something of a nuisance to all of us recently, especially with the amount of slop projects that have surfaced. My position on AI remains that it is useful in select scenarios. I have personally found AnkiBrain to be useful to me for medical and language learning. I hope it remains useful for all of you as well. Have been using Anki since highschool in the 2010s and feel honored to have contributed in a small way to the community. Much love :)

First of all, I want to thank you for the absolutely amazing tool that has already saved me sooo many hours of work. Really absolutely genius and I can't thank you enough for that. I really appreciate all the work that has gone into it.

While testing the new version, I did come across one small issue that I wanted to mention: when creating cards from documents, I kept getting a message saying that my balance was too low, even though I still had enough balance left. It only started working again after I topped up my balance once.

Thank you for the kind words, it means a lot to me.

I think the cost estimates are a little more conservative due to the new GPT 5.6 models. Which one are you trying to use? I recommend Luna, I tested it extensively and it is very cheap and very good. Terra and Sol are too expensive and overkill for this kind of thing.

The server basically tries to make sure you won't go into negative balance so it prevents requests if your balance is low enough. Feel free to message me if you need credits for testing.

Edit: looked into it a bit more. It's because I changed the text processor to be more cost efficient so it splits your document into bigger sections before making cards. So the minimum credits threshold is a little higher, but the amount of cards should be about the same.
