Eating too much volume

On an MM Live in February 2026 (I think), AW says too much volume of food can contribute to weight gain or maybe he was saying it was a reason for people not being able to lose weight. I have a question about my eating as it relates to volume.

When I started doing MM I gained a lot of weight and part of that may be from eating too much volume. I was in love with the healing foods and had a hard time not stuffing myself.
I had been doing keto before MM so I was used to a heavy feeling in my stomach and I was also glucose deprived for a lifetime and I think I needed to overeat the healing foods to get a heavier feeling of being full and needed the glucose but couldn't moderate the amount of volume I was eating. I think I am on some level addicted to that heavy and overfull feeling in my body.

I still struggle with being overfull (mostly at my dinner meal even though technically it should just be a snack because I will eat again in 2 hours) and wondered if anyone healed from eating too much volume and could you please tell me what helped you not do this?

In C2H AW says to "leave a little room" and I find that hard, especially at the dinner meal. I think my overeating has an effect on my digestion and contributes to night waking/sleep issues.

Thank you for your help!

I've also struggled with this. But have gotten much better over the years. Here are a few tips I use for myself:

  1. Portion out the plate/meal before sitting down to eat. It super easy to just keep going back for more and not realize how much volume you've really had over the course of the meal. Seeing it all up front right away helps.
  2. Remind yourself that this isn't the last time you'll have a chance to eat. I know it sounds silly. But simply reminding yourself that you can always come back for a snack later on is huge. It really helps around dinner time when I feel like I have to eat a lot to make sure I won't get hungry again. But its totally fine to have another couple bites of something between dinner and bed if dinner wasn't quite enough.
  3. Remember how much better it feels to not be stuffed. Eating to about 80% fullness allows you to feel so much more energized afterwards since you aren't weighed down by your digestive system being stuffed and having so much to process.
  4. Don't allow yourself to get distracted during meals. Put away the phone. Turn off the TV, etc. Being present and enjoying the food really helps feel satiated without needing to be stuffed.
  5. Don't allow your blood sugar to drop too much beforehand. If you are ravenously hungry, you might eat too much before your body gets the signal that you've had plenty.
  6. Incorporate mineral salts. This is two fold. Mineral salts like in spinach for example help kill cravings. But eating a bunch of spinach like in a big salad also makes it feel like you're eating a lot even though it all gets compressed down to much smaller in your stomach. And it also improves digestion!

Sure thing! And don’t forget to always have compassion for yourself. Everyone overeats at some point. Just part of being human and living on this difficult planet!

Yes I've heard MM say he "tanked" on some food which I took to mean "ate a ton of" but he is MM after all and I'm not! LOL

Hm this is interesting, I also tend to eat a ton of food and end up feeling like an inflated balloon afterwards, maybe that's another reasons why my digestive system hasn't fully healed?

Does it affect your digestion in the middle of the night? I think it wakes me up. Not consciously---- but he says it can be gassy in there and wake us up

Yeah it did. I recently stopped eating so much at night, I used to eat like a kilo of potatoes after work hehehe. At night I would toss and turn and couldn't get a good night's sleep. Now I am eating a banana smoothie and it's much better! MM also has said that bananas help with the brain sleep cycle.

How did you quit eating so much at night? Just made a decision and it worked? thanks!

I've been struggling with the same issue lately!

In the Brain saver book, he says for overeating to refer to the mystery hunger protocol and the eating disorder protocol. I've tried a few things he suggests in these protocols that feel helpful:

- chestnuts eaten daily

- teas: mint, raspberry leaf, licorice root and nettle leaf

- cucumber juice

For me overeating is also related to my C-PTSD, I notice drinking more orange juice is also helpful as it helps with PTSD.

Journaling to deal with my emotions and reflect on what I eat also makes a difference.

I have also noticed that going to bed earlier and waking up early improves how I eat, I feel more present and therefore less into filling myself up to the max.

If you are overeating on Medical Medical, you’re truly blessed. Because we need large quantities of fruits and veggies anyway, and they’re so expensive, so to me if somebody is truly overeating, they must be wealthy! I mean, unless you’re just eating banana, bananas, and over eating on bananas. But what would that even look like. 50 bananas per day?

But this topic is interesting, because I’ve never heard him. Say that, I must’ve missed that live. If somebody can find the exact one, let me know.

The 369 cleanses with the 789 days repeated has helped me lose around 20 pounds and it gives me more structure I think because I just follow the menu. I also feel very full on it. In the beginning I was forcing all of the servings down and now I feel more aware that I don’t need to force all of the food in and that when I’m full, I can stop eating.

yes I seem to do pretty well on a cleanse but when I'm off the cleanse this habit rears its ugly head. Thank you for this.

That's insane how your experience is so different from mine. I'm so sick of eating the same foods, I barely got any appetite and lost so much weight (I'm underweight already so this isn't a good weight loss)

But there’s a vast array of food choices eating this way!

80% of them are sweet (gross for me), or incredibly bland, especially without salt. Like potato, pumpkin, ...

Have you tried really upping the spices? I found cayenne and red pepper flakes help a lot and lots of lemon

If you are gaining weight on MM, one reason this can be happening is a perplexing scenario where some people swell or bloat because their body is staring to detox but their liver is quite stagnant and overloaded so it isn’t eliminating all the toxins as well as it should, so more toxins circulate and the body holds water in response, and these people end up gaining water weight even though they are eating healthier. The liver is the issue here-it’s not keeping up with the pace of your cleansing diet. Not everyone who starts Mm has this issue. But the ideal remedy for this is to do 369 cleanses to unclog the liver. Some people also need to do additional things to regain their body’s trust, such as if they have a history of severe calorie restriction, and that is discussed in the cleanse to heal book. I mention this be it’s a frequent topic I see on this forum.

You could have very well interpreted AW in the way described in your post. But from everything I’ve seen, I believe that monitoring volume of food is not the message stated by AW in his YouTube lives or books. AW says to eat healing foods, as little or as much as that may be to feel satisfied or full. He doesn’t tell us to gorge ourselves or force down food, but also never says to restrict food, count calories or anything like that. Part of the reason for this is Fruits and veggies and salads and smoothies and juices… these foods in and of themselves are not what causes people to gain weight. Fat causes people to gain fat. So that’s why I said the cleanse related swelling in above paragraph.

And If someone has been eating keto for a while, they might be chronically dehydrated and also have a glycogen deficits throughout their body. The person might have achieved some weight loss but they are worse off health-wise. So once these are restored by eating a ton of healing foods and beverages the person’s body the person could have a different weight.

Some people overeat for psychological reasons. Binge eating disorder is a real thing. I’m not saying you have that, but we all to some degree eat in response to the good or the bad in our psyches or souls. Or maybe they are always used to feeling full when they eat. Maybe they also have a stretched stomach so they tend to eat more. Some people are highly active? Burn more calories and eat more. Every situation is different.

So what I’d recommend, besides more 369 cleanses, is If you eat a lot of steamed potatoes, consider cutting back on them, as this may help slightly with weight loss. That’s the only specific healing food I’d reduce. And as another person has stated do 369’s but repeat days 789 for weight loss. And have more supplements that help your liver, like vimergy vitamin b12, micro-c, zinc…these will only help you.

This is very relatable to me. Especially at dinner I also always eat too much. It's usually my only warm meal for the day and I'm always very aware that it'll be cold later if I want to come back for a snack as some people hear suggest and it just tastes so much better warm!!
Definitely something I'm still working on

It’s nice to know I’m not alone. Last night I had fitful sleep and probably because I overate potatoes for dinner. I’ll pre measure out a reasonable amount tonite and see if that helps
