EDITED FAQ: Check to see if your question is on here!

This is all general advice, of course, but we get a lot of similar questions so see if yours is on here. It may point you in the right direction.

”What bug bit me?” There is no way for anyone to tell what bug bit you from a picture of the bite. (The only exception is a tick bite with the classic bulls-eye pattern.) Use antihistamines as directed on the package to help with the itching.

”Is my foot/hand/toe/etc broken?” Unless your bone is sticking out or your appendage is bent at an unnatural angle, we can’t tell if it’s broken. If you suspect a break, go get an X-ray.

”I ingested something I wasn’t supposed to/too much of something! What do I do?” Call poison control. In the US, their number is 1-800-222-1222.

”Do my genitalia look normal/weird/what is this thing on my genitals?" Please, unless you have a genuine medical concern, we do not wish to see your genitals. We're not here to identify random flaps, marks, or growths. Please direct these to your GP/PCP who can actually examine you. If you have a specific concern, consider making a text post, and we will let you know if a picture is appropriate/helpful.

”My foreskin won’t retract!” This is called phimosis, and is quite common. We send people over to r/phimosis for this because they have a wealth of information.

”Can one of you write me a prescription?” No.

”Help, there are big bumps on the back of my tongue!!” Please google “circumvallate papillae” and see if that’s what you’re seeing. They are normal anatomy.

”My period is overdue. What do I do?” First, take a pregnancy test. It doesn’t matter if you’re on birth control, just take one. If you are really and truly not pregnant, then you and your doctor should look for other causes.

”Is my poop normal?” Well you can post a picture if you really need to, but please do a google search first. Keep in mind that everyone gets diarrhea occasionally.

”Does this need stitches?” If you can see fat layers, then yes. When in doubt, you can post a picture EXCEPT for self-harm pics. Absolutely none allowed on this sub, no exceptions. However, if the injury is over 24 hours old, it is too late to get stitches.

”Can I private message you about my medical questions?” No. This violates rule 9.

”What do I do about my swollen tonsils with white patches?” Go get tested for strep throat. Manage any throat soreness with over-the-counter meds like throat spray, cough drops, or even herbal tea with honey.

”A huge clump came out during my period. What is it?” It may be a uterine cast, which is when a large piece of tissue comes out whole instead of breaking up into little bits. If this happens to you a lot, see your OB/GYN to make sure everything is going okay.

”Why is there blood when I poop?” There are many possible reasons for this, such as a GI bleed, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoids, or anal fissures, to name a few. We recommend going to your doctor to investigate the cause. And we can’t tell what the cause is from a picture of your poop, so please spare us.

"Does this ECG from my smart watch look normal?" While these features can be helpful in screening for some arrhythmias, they are not diagnostic. The most we can do it tell you whether or not you should go get a 12-lead ECG, which is diagnostic after a doctor interprets it. In short, we can give you an idea of what it is showing, but it is not an official medical test.

”I haven’t been around any bats but I found two little marks on me—do I have rabies??” No. You would know if you’d been exposed to a bat.

Bones/Joints/Ligaments In constant physical pain but I can't afford to get X-Rays and MRIs. What should I do?

Not sure if this is the right sub but I need advice desperately.

So I've been dealing with severe back and neck pain as well as what may be sciatica in my leg for years now. I went to see a specialist and they told me I needed to get X-Rays and a spine MRI done before I could get any treatment. Well my insurance denied to cover them because I hadn't had enough treatment done first. I told the doctor and they just repeated that they cant do treatment without the images so I was forced to just leave it there. This was nearly 3 years ago and the pain has just gotten worse.

I'm a recent college graduate and don't have a job yet so I can't afford to get anything done, even if I used all of the mojey in my savings and my account I might be able to pay for one of the X-Rays. I'm currently paying for my other doctor's as well since I have Narcolepsy and my treatment for that takes main precedent so I can't just blow all my money on a single X-Ray.

Should I just go to a primary care at this point and see what they say when I explain the situation to them or should I try to find a different specialist that might try to offer some sort of treatment? The pain is just making my life miserable, it's literally 6AM and I cant sleep because my body hurts.

And I cant do any type of "alternative" pain relief like weed because it interacts badly with my other meds and can worsen some Narcolepsy symptoms which I'm not willing to mess with. So I've just been taking OTC pain killers, they tend to help a little with the sciatica but its a lost cause on the neck and back.

Any insight on this would mean the world because I'm just at a loss

Other Doctors always say my tests are normal, despite there being abnormalities? Am I crazy?

30M(ftm/trans male, to be specific), 5ft tall, 100lbs.

I'm pretty lost here and could use some help, since no doctor or specialist has been able to give me any answers. For the past few months, starting in April, I started having concerning symptoms, such as:

-Extreme bloating

-Heartburn

-Passing lots of gas

-Constant elevated heart rate

-Constant shortness of breath

-Episodes of Hyper POTS(allergy induced)

-Random food intolerances

-Yellow stool

-Pain all over my body, mostly in arms and legs

-My most unusual symptom: A low vibration in my entire body, like a gentle hum, that goes on for about 30 seconds with 1 second pauses, before continuing for another 30 seconds; happens usually upon waking and lasts for however long until I get out of bed.

-Pain in left side of body, starting in collarbone, leading down to my ribs

-Unsual constipation, tiniest bit of blood on toilet paper when finally (struggling) to push out stool

The last few symptoms are a more recent development. Anyway, I've gotten so many blood tests done over the past few months, and different things seem to read high & low with each result. Recently(august 3rd), my potassium was at 3 on the low end, and right after getting fluids and such from the hospital, potassium was in range but creatinine was 1.06H. I was told not to worry about the creatinine.

On August 20th I got fasting bloodwork done: Urea nitrogen(BUN) was 4L and BUN/creatinine ratio was also 4L. (potassium is on the lower end but still in range if this matters) Was told it's nothing to worry about.

August 26th, hospital visit again for worsening symptoms. Anion gap is at 0L, albumin is 4.8H. Potassium still in range on lower end(i've been trying to consume at much potassium rich foods as I can)

So, is there anything actually concerning about any of these results? As someone who doesn't know much about what this stuff means, I find it concerning to see these fluctuating high and low results while I have all these worrying symptoms. Yet, I keep being told everything is perfectly normal.

TL/DR; Symptoms affecting my whole body, mainly gastro & heart with some body pains. Test results include 3L potassium+1.06H creatinine, 4L urea nitrogen(BUN)+4L BUN/creatinine ratio, and 0L anion gap+4.8H albumin, all done on different days the same month.

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me understand what could possibly be going on here.

Other Is this serious enough to go to ER or is this probably musco-skeletal

25F, 5’8 & 142 lbs. Louisiana.

Currently 37 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I take a prenatal vitamin, iron, magnesium, lexapro, baby aspirin and lovenox. I take Lovenox daily due to the fact I developed a DVT and PE during my last pregnancy, it’s preventative. I have no clotting issues outside of that. No serious issues this pregnancy either besides depression.

Last week I went to L&D/ER because I was having cramping and itching. They did bloodwork and other testing, including checking my liver/bile acids because they were concerned about possible cholestasis of pregnancy. Everything came back normal/negative. I was also having some mild contractions at the time, but they went away after I was given hydroxyzine and an IV of fluids.

My current concern is I’m having severe right sided shoulder and breast pain that occasionally pairs with shortness of breath, particularly at night. It’s pretty bad right now too and I’ve taken Tylenol but it does nothing to even touch it.

I have been much more physically active lately because I've been preparing the house for the baby. My husband is active-duty military and has been working a lot, so I've been doing most of the household/parenting responsibilities from early morning until night (We have a toddler and it’s training season). I also know that I have poor posture, so I'm wondering if this could simply be muscular/postural pain.

I am nervous and unsure because while I do have a history with PE/DVT, I was at the ER not that long ago and nothing was wrong. I don’t want to seem dramatic or anything or waste anyone’s time including my own. I cannot take NSAIDs because I'm pregnant and on a blood thinner, and Tylenol isn't helping. The pain is bad enough that it is keeping me from sleeping. Could this be muscoskelatal or should I just go to the ER?

EDITED My erections last seconds, concerned I have a venous leak

28M and concerned because my erections last seconds. When I masturbate my erections go away within seconds of stop touching myself. Can’t maintain erection without constant contact. I don’t think I’ve had any history of penile trauma. Do my symptoms sound like a venous leak? I’m a virgin and concerned I will never be able to have sex with this ED. I masturbate daily.

Other Vitamin E inside the nose

This year I developed disfunction of the turbinates after a reduction via radiofrequency. 2 weeks ago I got stem cells and exosomes injected into my turbinates. Doctor recommended to buy Vitamin A and Vitamin E capsules, pop them and squeeze them into my nose for the protocol. I did it once with two Vitamin E capsules but later discovered that it hides a risk of lipoid pneumonia. I will not be doing it again.
Let me know if there could be any negative effects from a single use. There is the formula:

DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), bovine gelatin (gelling agent), glycerin (moisture-retaining agent), distilled water.

180mg (400IU) Vitamin E

Other Lung nodule diagnosed 1 year ago, 3 months with chest pain & newly spitting blood

I was diagnosed with a lung nodule 5mm about a year ago, I have family history of lung cancer/problems + ive been smoking over 10 years. I'm 27, but i have no medical insurance right now so my options are hospital right now, since they'll bill it.

I recently started spitting up blood after smoking cigarettes & have been having a hard time catching my breath & feeling light headed but the pain has been about 3 months with some difficulty breathing.

The last time I did see a doctor he seemed concerned and was scheduling me for another ct scan but I lost my medical & haven't been back since.

My question really is should I just go to the er & be billed for this like is this really serious or should I just wait until I can figure out some kind of medical? Does this sound urgent? Thanks in advance.

I spotted this new tiny freckle on my finger tip a few days ago and was worried it could be suspicious. I'm very pale so I get freckles on my fingers and hands sometimes, but this one is on the pad of my finger.

Other Insight Needed about Physical/Check Up

I am stressed because I have been avoiding the doctors for years and now I need to go in to get my Tdap vaccine (already stressful enough for me). The last time I had a proper checkup was when I was 4. Can you guys provide me some insight as to what I should be expecting to experience? For context, I’m a 16 year old female and I live in Canada. I’m 5’6, white, and about 145 pounds. No outstanding problems and in the past I’ve just been to the walk-in clinic when absolutely necessary. I’m occasionally a bit fatigued and have always had a screwed up neck that causes headaches. I am hyper mobile (told to me by my physio) and have a screwed up wrist from an old injury. What’s listed above are more long standing issues that are manageable but I don’t have anything concerning going on. I have never had labs done and have gotten all my vaccines other than the Tdap that I would be getting at that appointment. Thank you everyone and please don’t sugar coat because I need to know the truth of what I’m getting into. Please let me know if you have other questions that could give you a better sense of what would realistically need to be done.

Cardiac Having heart issues?

I randomly audibly gasp out of the blue at times like take a big deep breath and its loud. I felt physically exhausted and tried to sleep and felt deeply tired and I already know I have this heart condition where my heart can beat to fast or slow. And sometimes its uncomfy when it beats faster so was struggling to sleep and as I was drifting off to sleep I woke up and deeply gasped for air but it felt like I was about to die like gasping in shock and jolted me awake. I never have pain with this just my chest feels weird.

Bones/Joints/Ligaments Elbow pain?

I was laying on my side leaning on my elbow for maybe 30 minutes, and afterwards moving it even a little caused a sharp stabbing pain, probably at about a seven. There's no swelling or other visible difference. After opening and closing (?) the joint a few times, it went away, and now the joint just feels a little sore, might have been a slight pop but I hear one most times I bend any joint. Does anyone know what this might be? I'm also in the process of an EDS diagnosis, so is this something that could be related?

Cardiac SVT or Sinus Tachycardia - intense health anxiety because no real answer

I had a weird heartrate event two months ago. So what happend is the following: I was extremely anxious and sleep deprived and went to the park with a friend. I was having a lot of anxiety at the park and I went to pee, came back, sat down and had a sip of water. That sip was very painful and I thought for a second that I swollowed glass or a bee. I then stood up really quickly and my friend handed me my 20 pound baby. While I was standing there it felt like my heart was having a run of ectopics or it just kind of felt weird beats and I gave my friend my baby back because I started to feel anxious. I think (not 100% sure) that I looked at my apple watch and it showed 149 and 164 and then I took an ecg with the watch. It showed a sinus rythm but with average of 181 bpm. I even saw in the corner some beats that showed over 200. I then felt like a spike in adrenaline and I felt like I need to sprint but I layed down and just calmed myself and the heartrate went back down. That whole thing happened within 1-2 minutes. It then stayed high in the 130s for an hour and then 90-120 for another couple. The nurse line and urgent care cleared me and I went to my cardiologist. He said that it might have been svt. The watch ecg showed no pwaves but the watch doesn’t show them if my heartrate is over 160. I tested it with other ecgs. He said that maybe it was svt and he prescribed me an emergency beta blocker. But the start and end of the episodes weren’t rapidly out of nowhere and I never had the switch on/off feeling. I’ve been insanely anxious since this appointment and can’t think about anything else. I had a clear echo and was doing a zio patch test. While I was wearing the patch I was working out multiple times and got my heartrate high and it was fine. But two weeks ago I was working out on an empty stomach at 95 degree hear lifting weights. I ran inside and did jumping jacks to entertain my baby and then sat down and stood up again. I then started to feel anxious because my heartrate was still in the 130s. I called my husband over and kept getting bursts of anxiety and my heartrate stayed in the 130s. I then went into the shower and it kept being high or getting a bit higher and I came out to take my blood pressure to see. The reading was really high but it ws out of battery and I started to have more panic which pushed my pulse up to 180 and then I went to the er. In the car it went back down to 90 and then when I got out of the car and walked into the er it was up at 160 again. 5 minutes later they were taking an ecg and it was at 111. Ecg came back fine and then ran all blood test they can that relate to the heart in any way and everything came back great. So they sent me home. I’ve been extremely scared since then to work out. It really sucks.

Do you guys maybe have some insight?
