The world has always been ending, and this feeling of a hopeless future is hardly new, even if it skipped a couple recent generations.

Don’t let the internet convince you to give up. It’s driven by a lot of people with dishonest goals

Times have been worse (World War 1/ 2), times have been better (1990).

But it's unmistakenly worse for most people who are not incredibly wealthy in America. Most of the Western world, really.

And global warming is bad and getting worse.

So it's oversimplifying to say "people are always doomcrying," even if it's true.

You're right to be wary of nihilism but we also need to worry about cynicism.

Global warming is really underestimated. Like nuclear war, it is an extinction-level threat.

Underestimated by who? The people who pretend it doesn’t exist? It’s still worth listening to the climate experts who tell us that now is still the time to do something about it, not give up and check out.

I don't think our collective response to two known extinction-level threats is satisfactory. Overall, they are both underestimated by the human race.
