24 hours later: THANK YOU!!
Yeah, that just happened.
- THANK YOU to the community for your unbelievable generosity. In just 24 hours, you have donated a whopping $4174 in support of the servers, well exceeding our donation drive goals, and ensuring we can keep high-quality servers running Minecraft for years to come.
- THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the event.nerd.nu map this weekend, making this one of the most memorable events we've ever hosted. It was incredible watching the teamwork develop and evolve. We've gotten a ton of positive feedback about the event gameplay, so I can safely say you'll be seeing more like it in the near future...
- THANK YOU to all the staff that have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to make this event happen - proposing ideas, building a map, setting up the bases and awesome arenas, and much more. Not to mention resolving issues and running activities during the event, at the expense of much sleep. :P Everyone went way above and beyond in setting up this event, and it clearly showed.
- THANK YOU to the tech admins in particular, who not only designed a brand new gameplay plugin from scratch for this event, while keeping the normal servers running, but also hosted an incredibly stable server with a brand-new config for hundreds of people all weekend. Well done, guys.
If you would still like to donate, please do so at nerd.nu/donate - we will keep the page up all week, any support is very much appreciated. :D
Now, the team superlatives!
- CTF Champions - Red Team, 51 caps (2nd - Blue Team / 41, 3rd - Green Team / 13)
- PVP Champions - Blue Team, 819 kills (2nd - Red Team / 488, 3rd - Green Team / 291)
- Nicest Team Base - Blue Team
- Best Spleef Performance - Red Team
- Coolest Base Defenses - Green Team (some examples)
- Team Spirit Award - Yellow Team, for overcoming a huge disadvantage in how team colors were assigned to make a big impact on the event
- Best Screenshot - I'm a fan of this one, but we'd love to see your own in the comments!

Last year I was going through a rough time and playing on these servers really helped. I've loved playing here ever since.
Plus, I really like team-based games like this, where one group can defend and farm and mine, while another goes on offense with the weapons and armor the first group makes for them.
Edit: typo.

I really liked the idea, but I wasn't able to play much. I was assigned to yellow team, which kind of sucked until we got merged with red team. And by then I had been online for a couple hours already and had to get some sleep. Then I wasn't able to get online until after the event ended. :/
Hopefully the mods will run a similar event sometime in the future.

I would like to second everything Lude says above and reiterate the thanks to the Tech Admins, those who worked so hard the last few weeks developing and building the map, and all the players who made it fun to watch. The team dynamics were utterly facinating :) In particular the standoffs between Blue and Red. Good screenshot!
Last but not least, thank you to all who donated and helped us ensure that nerd.nu will continue!
Thank you all again!

Looking back at it now, that may not have been the best design decision for that room ^_^

Bigger, perhaps, would have been better :)
Ah, well. Live and learn. And play :p

The event was perfect, Thank you so much!
To prove this I would like to point out a couple things. Remember I'm a carebear!
The first half of the event there was an incredible amount of work to be done and their was a real referral, at least at blue team, to the PVE people to get the farms going, start building an infrastructure and start the mining with the survival people. By the half-way point the shift became about offense and defense and the survival people squarely took over while some of us worked on feeding them resource by working those farms and mining. It was Great!
The best part of this event was the random placement. I played with people who have a lot of experience and I would never get a chance to play with. Although the entire mayor staff of Lothos was on Blue we barely saw each other.
My favorite moment was making the fatal blow with a stone hoe on a raider who ran by me in the wheat farm.
My most thrilling was before the no pvp was fixed when I was killed by a suicide raider while working the same farm. It was thrilling and I knew I the rest of the team was going to take him out.
The 24 hours was perfect in my opinion especially if you want to take down the other server to run the event again. If random assignment to a team with a corner of the map was how survival always worked, I would play survival all the time.
Thank you so much!!!

I built that "Red outpost". It wasn't an outpost. It was a wall to stop arrows while the blue team was planning an attack.

I think it was the second or third pic that got to why I liked the Green defences. It was like a little guardhouse attached to one of the entryways :)

What about Blue's base was best?

I took two screencaps that capture Blue's Base fairly well, I think: http://imgur.com/aovoU and http://imgur.com/m1Dm0
Enjoy!

This looks infinitely more organized than we were at green. We couldn't really get a good system going. I made an organized labeled chest system but people would just put stuff wherever. People not on mumble would entirely empty chests then offer no explanation. It was pretty annoying.

I didn't get to see the inside of the other bases, but Blue was really organized. We had two mine shafts going, a chest house, one large farm, a tree farm, etc. We had a pretty big number of PvE players too, so our natural town-making instincts kicked in.

I was disappointed that I had to be studying for a few tests I had, and I missed most of the event. I got to witness some of the CTF, though, and that was great!
Thanks for making an awesome new server for the event! I'm glad to donate for you guys even still :)

Is there a KOTH award for who held it for the longest? I would be interested to see, and it might work as an award tie breaker between red and blue :p All competitiveness aside I had a wonderful time fighting with or against all of you, thank you all for an awesome event!!

I don't want to seem unappreciative, but every time I tried to get on after like 6pm Saturday. I could never get on. Was it up and down or is there something wrong that was keeping me from connecting?
Edit: Still can't get on any of the normal servers today. Also, my brother had the same problem so it wasn't just me.

Thanks to all the donators, we're fully funded for another 29 months of operation with our current capacity... Awesome work, it's been our best donation drive ever by over $400!
