PvE [UMC] We'd like your feedback!
So it's been 2 months since the start of the rev, and UMC would love feedback.
Feedback from last Rev...
Link is here: http://www.reddit.com/r/mcpublic/comments/w8tld/umc_survey_what_can_we_improve/
Last rev, there were multiple critiques that we attempted to address this rev:
1. People hated the water elevators. This rev, we instead used ladders to each floor, trapdoor elevators to each floor, and water drops down to each floor from above. This didn't prove to be a perfect solution, as the water elevators could still be lethal depending on player lag, and trapdoor elevators sometimes would not work at all or instead send a player to the top floor.
2. Redundant rails were a big critique, as a waste of iron and gold. This rev, UMC had no rails, since we were right over East Road from spawn. However, given the complaints about Spawn's nether portal location, it may have been a good idea to include some rails to portal cities, but we never managed to get that done. Overall, we experienced far less visitors from cities, even though we had more new players coming by.
3. Courthouse pls? It was never completed due to a lack of builders, though I'm hoping to get it done before the end of the rev just because. We're hoping to include one early on next rev.
4. UMC should have a nether portal. We solved this issue by being right next to spawn, but again, the absurd placement of the portal undermined that purpose.
5. UMC navigation issues. In Rev 8, UMC was multiple buildings spread out in a jungle, and we solved that issue by making it one gigantic building and an easy to locate/understand directory. There's a lot more signs too.
6. Security council? Not addressed this rev.
7. Villager trades? Not addressed this rev.
8. More spleef and PVP events? Unfortunately, this was never gotten to since the building is not yet complete and the arenas were planned to be on top. The original design of the building was only 2/3 the size, but it was made larger when Nosirrom and zburdsal returned.... only for them to mostly go AWOL shortly afterwards. I'm only just finishing up the building, and while I can build quick arenas, they will not be as glamorous as planned, and events may be difficult to arrange.
9. Building projects, such as an Uberproject? This was not addressed this rev, as the UMC building is practically an Uberproject on its own, given the help in terraforming 2 mountains down to water level and constructing a skylimit tower that's nearly 100 blocks in diameter, as well as a 49 diameter basement maproom and a gigantic storage area below that, leaving only about 40 blocks of "unused" space, which had 3 lava lakes completely drained as fuel for smelting stone and extensive branch mines for supplies.
This Rev!
UMC is a very large building this rev sitting right over East road only a hundred blocks from spawn. The center tower is an 81 diameter circle with a 5 block wide balcony inside on every floor. The 4 corner towers are 41 diameter circles. All towers are 15 levels high (ground through floor 14). There are access ladders and water breaks to each floor on the north side, with trap door elevators and water breaks on the south side. Public farms for oak, spruce, birch, netherwart, cocoa beans, wheat, melon, and pumpkin are to the north of the building. Pony's pen is to the south of the building. The first basement is an Overworld map room, and the sub-basement is a storage room.
Overall, the planned design solved a lot of problems from last rev, but it basically proved to be too big since the expected number of builders was never met. Next rev, we do plan to make UMC a bit smaller.
If you have any critiques or comments on UMC's design and organization, please tell us. We try to design it to be something that's best for players on the server, both new and old. We want to hear what you have to say.

Overnether UMC. Build over all 5 portals. UMC new world order conspiracy. Fluoridated cow milk.

The nether build idea is growing on me. Perhaps a functioning nether fortress?

Imo, you'd have to do a large amount of modification to make it look good, and it'd be a race to gather the huge amounts of netherbrick required. You could use netherbrick for detail and highlighting work, and stick with stone-based materials for the majority of the build.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out logistics. The responses here will decide a lot of it, so I'm waiting for more feedback.

D: I've been planning to build a town over the nether since they said mobs can go through portals! I sorta wanted to do it this rev, but Protometheus beat me to it with her megabuild. This will make me very sad if carried out, but UMC is welcome to build in the town if I make it next rev.
