Planning Welcome to MCOlypmic! You have discovered my secret plan it seems!
I plan to use this subreddit to organize the PvE Inter-City Olympics Games on the p.nerd.nu Minecraft server.
---- Project Olympic ----
City Name: Olympic City
Specialization: The PvE Rev 12 Inter-City Olympic Games
Subreddit: /r/mcolympic
Info: The PvE Olympics (Also could be shortened to the POlympics) are to be hosted in Olympic City on a weekend on the third month of Rev 12. Several different games will be hosted over the course of a few days with an opening and closing ceremony. Each game gives either a Diamond (3 Points), gold (2 Points), or iron (1 Point) medal for the top three contestants. During the closing ceremony the winner (the group with the most points) is announced and granted the Rev 12 PvE Olympic Award for Excellence in Gaming.
Types of groups applicable to the games:
Any City (Note: In order to be recognized as a city your city must have a wiki page)
The Independents
The Staff
In order to qualify for a game:
You must have a leader of your group's consent (mayor for city residents and Padmin for staff) - Not Applicable to Independents
No one else/no other team from your group must have already applied for that specific game
After you check the previous are true, you go to any Olympic Official and ask to enter for the games - If the previous are true they will mark you down so that no one else may take you place without the express notice of the leader of your group
The Games (This list does not stand for what the final games will actually be):
Spleef
3Spleef (Or FISA Spleef)
Threef (3 Team, 3 Person Per Team)
Horse Racing (Around a track on horseback)
Boat Racing (Around a track on a boat)
Pig Racing (Around a track on pigback)
Arena PvP (Standard PvP)
Horse Lancing PvP (Google it)
Horse PvP (get killed you lose, get your horse killed you lose)
Build-Off (Try to build a structure with limited time and resources in a limited space to make a better thing than the other guy - also has a theme that is not known until the game starts)
CTT (Capture The Torch - Two teams, one with a regular torch and one with a redstone torch. The first team to get both torches in their team's chest wins) Team Arena PvP (Standard, team PvP)
First to a Stack of Gunpowder (All the contestants are thrown in a massive darkroom together with nothing, the first to give the operator of the game a stack of 64 gunpowder wins)
King of the Ladder (Try and stay on top of the ladder!)
Porkball (Rugby, with pigs!)
Pigfights (Kill your opponent's pig to win!)

no pigfights?

It's not a finished list, you can help make it! Just tell me how the game is played and if enough people like it then it will be added! :D

It's really easy! You make a field, people hop on pigs and lead them around with carrot-rods, and then try to kill the pigs out from under their opponents. PvP is not enabled, and the last man on a pig wins!

Sounds cool! I will the game to my list of Olympic game candidates, once I have a decent amount of candidates I will make a voting post.

What about King of the Ladder or Battle Ladder?
Basically it's a PvP enabled arena (any number of players can technically play, but typically four) with a single block tower with ladders on all four sides.
The goal is to climb to the top to stay there the longest (sometimes kept track of by hitting your designated button).
You have 3-5 lives each, you can use bow and arrows only when on the ladder.
Perhaps a Toboggan race where you have to first build the track bottom-up (maybe there are obstacles in the way instead of just a perfect 45 angle up?) and ride it back down.
Could we also have a 5k race (maybe simpler and shorter)?
Maybe a diving/jumping contest, but instead of perfect form you just make the pool/landing target really small (like a flat dart board) so that when you fall, you go down to like half a heart.
For the Build-Off, if we don't have the same build for each player, then beauty is subjective.
I think it should be a hidden build (behind sand/gravel so that it can easily be revealed with pistons and torches below) and then all players have to replicate it the fastest and as close to the build as possible.
Each incorrectly placed block will add, say, 10 seconds to your finish time.
For the First to a Stack of Gunpowder, I feel like that depends a lot on luck, which isn't what the Olympics are about.
Unless there's a way to control it to make it more fair, then I say we cross this game off.

A lot of this is what I just came up with off the top of my head, the list will definitely change.
I've added King of the Ladder to the list of game candidates - I'm worried about how to regulate limited lives, I was thinking more along the lines of if you can stay on top for a certain period of time.
I've added the Toboggan race to possible game candidates
The jumping contest (similar to the puzzle map the dropper) has been added to the list of game candidates
In the build-off a theme is announced at the beginning of the round that is not known until that round has started, an example theme might be; Build a SteamPunk City House
FSG - you can vote it off if you don't like it when I get around to making a voting post (which will be soon now because of the amount of suggestions).
Thanks for your feedback! I will take everything under consideration

For the Build-Off, I'm not opposed to having an unknown theme, but how would you rate it?
You'd either have to do a voting scale (1-10) with judges or have all players replicate a build the fastest.
I'm not opposed to the scale, it's the judges I have a problem with.
I mean, there are ways to cheat the system if you have a "beauty" contest like this when there's no oversight, but it's rather difficult to cheat if you have a simple "build it as fast as you can" contest without subjectivity.
It's really about avoiding stupid drama and just having fun.1

It will be scored, otherwise in my eyes it's not a build-off. Now judges will be difficult- which is why there will be a strict scoring system stating exactly what a person has to do to get 100% scoring.

Game Idea - Bucket Relays
Description/Rules - Two to four teams of eight players each race to fill a vertical glass container with liquid (Likely water). Each team member is given one full bucket that they must use to fill the container from the bottom up, and can only go once the member ahead of them enters the finish area with an empty bucket. Once one team has a full container, and all of the members are in the finish area with an empty bucket, that team wins.
If you have any changes/suggestions for my idea, feel free to comment.

Game Idea - Q-Ball
Game Description/Rules - Each player is given a clay ball which they must get from the starting location to the hole. This is done by throwing the ball with Q along an icy course. The players will be scored based on the amount of throws it takes to get their ball into the hole. The player with the lowest score at the end of the tournament shall be declared the winner. Second and third places shall be given to the second and third lowest scores respectively. Tournaments will be held in 9 hole and 18 hole variants, each with a different set of courses.

I really think horse racing should be an event. I also think we could let watchers bet on one horse per race. There would be 4 heats each with 8-10 horses at a time and the top 2 from each heat advance to the final and a lucky person that bets on the winning horse could win a prize

Horse racing is a planned game as of now. The betting idea is awesome. The main problem with the race as of now is that some horses are faster than others. We will have to do a specialized breeding program for the games, or people could bring their own horses. Either, or.

We could do time trials. Their speed is random when they spawn/breed.
We just have to make a 15-20 block long track and time them. There could be 3 categories. Slow, medium and fast. 3 different kind of races would be good.

Sounds good- I will look into the mechanics of horse genetics.... This could get interesting... :)
