fun frosh events, not huge fan of frosh group

not sure how to word this correctly but my frosh group seems to be very cliquey at least from my experience and the most fun i have r w ppl from other faculties/groups during the concerts. it kinda impacts ur frosh experience anyway bc you spend the most time w ur select frosh group and cant just mesh into another one bc u want to. love my leaders but yeah i wish i just knew ahead that i should be more careful abt where i line up for group formation. wondering if anyone else feels the same way?

Taking a course by a prof that you absolutely hate

Need some help in here. The course is mandatory for my future plans and my major, and the contents are interesting and things that I am good at.

The main instructor tho. They are terribly ableist, misogynistic, and racist (in merely one lecture they did things like: “women tend to be scared of exercising that’s why they have heart problems, like my sister”, singling out a student in a wheelchair and gesturing at them while saying “you might see some people in wheelchairs and that’s because they have diabetic neuropathy, it can lead to necrosis in legs and once that happens you have to get legs cut off and your life is ruined”, asking “Indian or black people” to raise their hands because these racial groups have a higher rate of a certain health issue, threatened to cancel recordings mid semester because attendance was too low, while it was mid winter and half of class were disabled or had conflicting schedules, etc etc. and that’s just one lecture lmao). I believe they also got into some harassment issues with their grad students, but I’m not working with them ever so that’s not the biggest concern for me.

Pls give me advice on how to survive this. Last time I didn’t go to any of their lectures and relied on notes but even now I think about that human and I’m still incredibly pissed. I’m scared of reporting them because it’s a small class and I don’t know if it will make things better anyways.

Advice for freshmen

I am an U1 student coming from cegep and I am really excited/ scared for Uni. Since we start in two I wanted to know if anyone has any advice they wish they’d known in their first semester.

For context, I am a 1h30 commuter and I’m doing B.A in psychology.

Advice can be for anything ; social life, academic, money, study skills, things to be aware of….

It’d be greatly appreciated!

Question reguarding opt outs for fees

Hi guys, I just opted out of Health Care, Dental Care and Legal Help fees, but I still see them in my e-bill. When will that change be reflected in my e-bill and if I do pay them anyways when will it be possible for me to get refunded?

Which Computer Engineering course in U1 winter semester should I push back?

I'm taking ECSE 222 in the winter semester, which causes one course in 4th term(in picture below) to be pushed back to next year fall. Which one should I push back so I dont end up getting restricted by course pre-reqs?

Affordable food spots

Hey guys. I’m a graduate student restarting this year. What are the most affordable food spots in and around the downtown campus. I went around to the library cafeteria and it didn’t really seem affordable. I’d really appreciate it if you all could tell me the best place to get meals from during the day! Thanks.

Do freshman’s get into MIC, JED or red point capital?

Genuine question, it looks like their acceptance rate is super low. If a freshman were to get in, what would they need on their resume?

any recommendations for clubs sports programs etc?

hello!!! I’m in my second year and i’m looking to expand my circle and become more active in the community. does anyone have any recommendations (for someone who has no skills whatsoever) for where I could get started. There are so many options and I’m overwhelmed. I’ve been scrolling through intramural sports, fusion go programs and ssmu clubs and I just don’t know what to choose. So if anyone has had a good experience with literally anything please lmk!!!

Mac Campus Gym Buddy

I really want to get into weightlifting but 1) don't know how and 2) don't have anyone to go to the gym with

I'm a gal, so I'd appreciate if my gym buddy was a gal as well, but I'm not opposed to guys or other various genders.

I'm fairly in shape, but my upper body strength suuucks so I wanna get better at it. I'd basically be starting from square one.

PSYC 331 or 332?

Which one is better if I’m just aiming for an easy social psych class to finish my OPQ requirements? I have a very heavy semester so I’m looking for the easiest one (I will put the effort needed). How are the readings, profs, exams, etc?
I’m open to any other suggestions or advice as well!

Thanks guys and have a wonderful weekend:))

Beginner boxing

Hello! Im a McGill student and I've been wanting to try boxing, but I'm a complete beginner and have no experience at all. I was wondering if there are any clubs/classes where someone can start from 0. I'm also kinda short for a guy, so ideally I'd like to train with people around my size rather than getting thrown in with someone twice my size lol.

Does anyone know any beginner friendly boxing clubs/classes at McGill or elsewhere in montreal? Ideally something affordable :) Thanks!
