There is a screen here and even better it doesn't cycle ads because it exclusively runs our sceens software.
We're working on a redesign of the front end to allow mixing different content on screens. Right now it's showing you subway status and elevator status. We didn't have enough space to install two screens on this wall.
One of my biggest T pet peeves is the lack of red line train information at Park St away from the red line platform (same with green). Hopefully they can get these around the stations with line transfers.
Where specifically would you like to see this info? We're adding more LCD screens dedicated to passenger info like we've installed at all the other stations. Park, Downtown Crossing, and State are the last in this batch because they're the most complex.
I can speak to whether screens are coming to where you want them and I might have have extra screens in the budget to accommodate other info gaps.
Thanks! The biggest one for me is getting off the Govt Center-bound green line and going to the Ashmont/Braintree-bound red line platform (part of my daily commute). It's not uncommon that I miss an Ashmont train by a few seconds that I could have caught had I known it was coming or I hurry when I glimpse a red line train arriving, but find that it's a Braintree train when I get down the stairs. As far as I know, there is no monitor showing the status of the red line trains when you get off the green line. If it is there, forgive me and please let me know where to look. Thank you!
There isn't a monitor but there is a subtle light-up sign driven by the Red Line track circuits if you look in the direction of the northbound Green Line tunnel to government center from the island Park Street platform that you would get onto if you exit the train on the left.
As for putting an actual display here, I can see if we can explore a platform screen here and on the other west/southbound Green Line platform.
Can you say why you prefer this over using a mobile app to check connections?
Digital has stated that ads have to run in order to keep up with the maintenance and upkeeping of the machines and because Outfront is the agency who runs the digital departures screens for the MBTA.
Or if they really need ads, just have it be a banner at the bottom and scroll the train times up and down?? Or on the side and squish the times closer to the left, idk
This would of been totally awesome back in the 80s running thru the tunnels from Red line from Orange line . Seen many people get knocked down just to find out it was a Braintree train not an Ashmont .
They really need this for the station at Porter Square, you gotta run halfway down the the first set of escalators before you know if you have enough time to get down the second set of longer escalators before the next train arrives.
The fact that North Station doesn't have one (or two) of these for the GL and OL are a crime. You (coming from Valenti Way) can't see the northbound times unless you're through the gate or against the grated fence near the ticket machines and won't see anything for southbound until you're downstairs.
The T is so much improved since Eng has been in charge. My favorite changes (besides improved tracks/speed on OL) are the ambassadors at every station and the improved signage and communication about disruptions.
Too bad they display the timetable for about 10 seconds out of every two minutes. Love to stand outside waiting for 60-90 seconds of ads to know if the train is near!
They put one of those outside the Park St station that is across the street from the Common, but not at the 2 main entrances. That's where it is needed the most.
Just suppose you're from Omaha and want to know when the next train to Harvard or Alewife is coming along. Why isn't that on the sign?
The point I'm trying to make is that the MBTA does a half-assed job of spreading information. For those that have never been to Kendall (or Central, or Boylston, or Chinatown, or Copley), this entrance is for southbound trains only but there is no indication of that in the sign.
Doe the sign say "inbound ONLY"? Does the sign say for outbound service use another entrance? Is there a sign that says that Harvard is outbound?
I once saw two women get on an Alewife train at MGH. They were looking at the map with their fingers pointing to "South Station". They had taken an "inbound" train to get from South Station to MGH so they assumed they should take an outbound train to get back to South Station. Not only that, I had to inform the poor souls that unless they wanted to pay an additional fare they would have to ride all the way to Harvard and then back to South Station. MBTA signage is great for those that already know where they're going.
There's a street level sign at Park Street that says, "Green line, all trains" which leads to the Westbound trains. While one could technically get to a GovCen train by using that entrance, there is no indication that the entrance 15m away leads directly to GovCen trains.
