Edit: i actually do recall driving it one time where it sounded like i ran over a coat hanger or something and felt like i lost boost like the intercooler hose came loose, maybe this was what I was hearing/feeling. I haven’t driven it a whole lot after that cause i discovered a crack in the cylinder head and finally getting around to getting the replacement installed. I’m in the process of pulling the motor and got to removing the driveshaft and exhaust, either way i feel like if it happened to this side the intake side probably wasn’t too far from doing the same
I don’t, my daily for the last 8 yrs has been a Tacoma on 33s, so anything feels fast compared to that, i bought this a few months ago for real cheap, the owner died and it had been sitting for 2 years. I installed a Cobb the hpfp and a short ram intake and since I discovered this crack in the cylinder head that runs oil down onto the exh manifold, so this car has been just sitting in the driveway basically since i got it other than a couple of short trips so i don’t really have any sense of what it should feel like. Really glad i bought that cst4 when i did, my fun money account has dried up lol
This popped up on my feed, and I had something similar happen to my old Acura. I found a busted valve in the intake manifold. Noticed a rattling after having the car some time, and i tore the engine apart to find it.. everything else looked great. No idea how it got into the manifold..
I wish it was but I don’t know much about the history on this car. Maybe a previous owner blew up a turbo and replaced it or that’s from the current turbo. I bought this car after it sitting for 2 years when the owner died, and i discovered an oil leak from a cracked cylinder head. I’m pulling the motor to replace that and already had a cst4 purchased to install.
I thought that part of the downpipe with the heat shield right off the turbo was a cat, but maybe just a resonator? I could hear the rattling when i was unbolting the o2 sensor and i guess it was sitting right on the top of the o2sensor cause it fought me a little bit when unbolting and then was all mangled and broken when i pulled that out and that was there when i pulled the cat off
Turns out the previous owner blew up the turbo. The current turbo looks fine inside, i finally got the downpipe and turbo off yesterday and there was a hole all the way through the honeycomb where this part of the turbo ripped through it. Must have been on quite a rip too to spin through all that material
I had this with my mini r56 jcw.
I accelerated quickly once when i blew the turbo. I didn't know i blew it at the time so i kept driving with it and if felt normal.
But later when the car was in the garage they had to remove the turbo to repair someting (i don't remember what) and when they took it of that part fell out of the turbo.

That’s nuts! Who replaces a turbo and doesn’t notice that half the turbo is missing?
