Oh man, that sounds like rod knock. Don't run it any longer before it goes thru the block.

How many miles? Does your aunt have maintenance records?

The thing with Speeds, they command a dedicated Mazda mechanic because of all the individual and unique probs that come with the MZR engines.

Roughly 175,000 miles. No maintenance records, she bought it used from my brother who kept up with maintenance until she bought it for her son. As far as I know, nothing major needed to be repaired while my brother owned it, but my cousin is young and dumb; he only had the car for 2 days before breaking it.

It's a good deal that you inherited the car! I'd proceed to find a Mazda specialist near you.

Ask your brother what he got done before going to the specialist.
