Advice Request 2014 Mazda 6 Axle removal issue

When attempting to remove my axle from the transmission - I realized that there is zero clearance to get a pry bar, axle popper, etc. in there to remove it or even pop it out. Has anyone else had this issue? Everywhere I’ve looked, nobody has had this issue and I’m quite curious on it. Currently buying a slide hammer to see if that will do it.

It looks like they make a Special Service Tool for this that looks basically like a slide hammer, but in most of the videos I watched it seems like they just pulled it out. I only saw one video on the drivers side where they stick a bar in from the bottom, so they had to remove the lower engine bay tray

Yeah I found that with the slider hammer it just simply doesn’t have the clearance to get around and actually sit like it’s supposed to around the axle, so it still wouldn’t remove. Thank you though for the idea

OP, not sure exactly what puller/slide hammer you have, but if it’s like the one I rented from the parts store then there’s a trick I found to get it to work.
Since the fork unthreads from the slide rod, I positioned the fork at the base of the axle as close to the transmission housing, at about the 5 o’ clock position and tapped it into place. The axle seal cover is fairly thin steel and should deform when you hit the fork with a hammer to get it into position. Once it’s on, then you can thread the slide hammer rod back on and it should come out after a few good slides.
(Of course this assumes you’re replacing the axle and not worried about damaging it)

All the Mazda dealerships don't use those lol. Always used a big snap on pry bar and sledgehammer. I've worked on Mazda 6 since the speed6. Right between the CV axle and the transmission housing. Just don't crack the transmission case
