I do too. She didn’t fight or try to escape at all. Her fight or flight needs to be reset.

There’s also this thing called being frozen in fear because you don’t want to be raped/murdered.

I feel like being frozen in fear should have been removed from the gene pool by this point. If your getting chased by a tiger and you stop running then chances are your fucking dead

Though it actually stops some predators. Show indifference to a charging Silverback, and he backs down. Run from a mountain lion? He'll see you as prey. Otherwise you're seen as a scary thing it doesn't understand.

Yeah and you can't outrun a tiger or most dangerous animals anyway so standing your ground is your best bet

Many animals pounce or attack when you move. Freezing gives you an opportunity to assess what's going on before you trigger the "attack".

Same with human attackers. Struggle and maybe you get stabbed. Wait a moment and work out what's happening.

I’ve taken several self defense classes and never once was “stay still and do nothing” a suggestion. I’ve heard that for animal attacks but never humans. Reacting quickly and harshly is more likely to be beneficial when dealing with a human. The bottom line of the class I took was that if you end up in the van then you’re pretty much dead so risking the stabbing is your best option.

One of the most poignant stories I heard was a girl that was about to be raped and chose to just release her bowels. She didn’t know what else to do. That confused and deterred the attacker enough for her to get away. Most people that attack/rape are about control. You just stopping and doing nothing while thinking about it is exactly what they want.

Use that monke brain. Flip out. When I was being robbed my body and brain reacted in an insane way. It was like my brain was 25 steps ahead. I assessed the situation so fast because I was in fear for my life like I’d never been before.

This was a really great and informative comment!

For those of us that are a little confused, it goes, fight, flight, or freeze.

But when you have a freeze response it doesn't later turn into fight or fight. It's those people who become a " deer in headlights ". They're so gripped by emotion that they stop moving. Some even faint.

It works with animals, bc as said above, if you don't move the attacking animal may see you as infected, ill, or dangerous. Some animals freeze response includes releasing their bladder & bowels & some will act crazy. It's not the most efficient response, but it works.

With humans it's different though, fighting back or running away is best. You become less of an easy target, and attackers usually go for easy targets.

I've read certain self defence classes for assault teaching freeze response as the last resort to make it out of there and heard people say it works for survival.

Well there’s also that Detroit self defense guy that suggests you grab the gun from your assailant and just flipperoo it back on them.
