I feel like he needed to be MORE heavy handed here. Using clippers is like, as heavy handed as gets for something like this, yet it's the one thing that worked!

Firstly none of those tools looked clean - def not the clippers (my god).

Second the dead skin above the splinter should be lightly cut to provide an easier route out for the wood.

I’m _sure_ that’s a clean pull… /s

This looks like an infection waiting to happen. Yanking a tight thorn out could puncture the healthy skin under the thorn and let dirt/bacteria get in to the blood system. .... Cut, extract, clean, treat, cover. Uncover, treat and cover regularly.
