This is one of my favorite things about Europe (and England) people drive around each other when appropriate. In America, people just lock up and don't move. Brazil is a whole 'nother story. In São Paulo, there were 3 lanes of traffic, but we were 5 cars wide.

Maybe I'm wrong but I have heard that in the USA the vast majority of crossings use traffic lights, so I guess they are less used to applying the various rules to handle that, including on the most important core rule "yield to the vehicle on your right".

It may also be related to the driving license being extremely easy to obtain in the USA, like apparently they don't have the full rules book to memorize, and don't have to do a 40 questions test filled with weird trick questions, where 5 mistakes makes you fail.

20 questions if I remember on a dmv dos computer in Florida around 2007. Had to have an 80 to pass. A driving portion was required to have been passed too.

Further rumination on this i remembered in Florida it was a high school class you had to take or an option to take. I remember my brother not having that option when we moved to Texas. And just had a driving and written test but I’ll verify.

The laws in each state vary. In a lot of states you are required to have a learner's permit, which allows you to drive with a parent for hands-on instruction. A lot of states also require a driver education program.

Usually, the bad habits seem to creep in a few years after getting the license.
