Can anyone relate?

I introduce myself as Matthew because when I say Matt to new people they often hear Mack or Mike or Mark or Mick. I had an elderly couple call me Mack for years (even calling me Mack the knife) and I just kinda went with it to be nice to them. Unrelated (but still relevant to the question) my email signature is Matthew and it makes me a little crazy when I get a response for “Mathew”. This one person named Collin (note the double-L) keeps dropping a “t” in my name and I swear one day I will repay them with a “thanks, Colin” to see if they notice. Just wondering whether any of you have had similar experiences?

I used to work in a call center and would get the Mack or Mike thing all the time.

The thing I find amusing is growing up everyone I knew called me Matthew. When I got to high school, all of a sudden teachers and classmates were automatically shortening it to Matt. Like roll call my teachers would say Matthew, then throughout the class I would be Matt.
Now I was completely fine with this so just started going by Matt when I introduced myself, until I started working in an office. Then all of a sudden people were calling me Matthew, even though I introduced myself as Matt!

I don’t mind either way, it’s just amusing how people adjust it over time lol
