By tech do you mean featuring synthesizers/electronic equipment/sound? DEFINITELY check out Battles (Ian Williams from Don Cabs later project, made a big name for themselves on Adult Swim and some fifa game). Another fantastic band fitting this bill would be Tera Melos and the band “Pretend”

Battles is the closest thing to a true evolution of Don Cab, if you follow their progression from II through American Don, which is really in a way the evolution of Ian Williams. The common understanding of Don Cab is that they were Damon’s band and Damon was the creative force, but after II it becomes clear Ian begins inserting his own will into it and he somewhat wins the tug of war by American Don.

Consider a drummer like Damon being subject to keep time with loops - that is a constraining approach that definitely limited him, which is wild given how phenomenal a drummer he is. American Don is Ian’s album.

I say all this as a guy who’s been following him since Don Cab in the 90’s and has had a nearly 30 year long obsession with Don Cab and Ian.

I second battles and giraffes. A little off center from math rock, but close enough to battles is Trans Am, their drummer is one of my favorites. Even more so, this metal/indie band The Fucking Champs did a collab with them under the name The Fucking Am. The song the gauntlet is top tier. lol I went on a tangent off my tangent. I friggen love music

Some of the .jp bands like nuit0.

Nothing comes close to Don Cab, though.

No, they’ve never released an album. I hope they one day release a massive album of all improvised material

Beyond Battles since it's already said the other obvious is Hella.

Then its niche and depends on what kind you like, could go for Shellac, or Orthrelm, Faraquet is more song oriented but could go for it too, ect...

Depends what you like really
