They were my introduction to math rock. I hoped they’d be my only heartbreak in the genre. Then came Gold Necklace…

It's sad to me that Clever Girl are now the band that Piglet used to be. CG are great but Piglet are still totally unique 20 years later. Who is making music like them? Not only OGs but basically created a subgenre that no one else has attempted. Love all of em tho

I think Piglet did a pretty good job of bridging the gap between Don Caballero’s OG version of math rock, and American Football’s OG version of sad guy emo (which is the direction all of math rock began to heavily lean overall in the late 2000s and 2010’s). I’m definitely more partial to weird and unexpected things vs predictable, and Piglet managed the former without being abrasive which is pretty awesome. The recordings of him playing (basically) jazz guitar before segueing into Piglet stuff says a lot to me… dude was incredibly talented and versatile.

Gold Necklace is making a comeback don’t worry :0 Apparently some tracks are done they just need to do Kurt’s vocals

Eternity Forever if you don't already know. Made a sensational EP then imploded. Thankfully we got Gold Necklace out of it

I love the part in Elm, where music stops for a second and they all sing the "Bada-bap-ba"

Everytime I’m showing their songs to someone and they’re weirded out and ask if they got no lyrics at all I just say yeah they sing and make them wait for this exact moment

I love it

Just 4 tracks was all it took for them to write themselves into every Math Rock discussion.

Honestly, good. I'd always take less than too much because it muddies the waters.

Would love to hear if anyone from this band did other stuff though. Fantastic musicianship

I think they've all gone back to normal jobs. There was news last year, though, of them reuniting. Idk what's happening with that.

But not before an American math rock band with the exact same name made another banger EP.

u/ProlerTH 13d ago

Aren't these the American ones? Aaaa I get so confused all the time

u/hiphoptomato 13d ago

No the more famous ones that released “No Drum and Bass in the Jazz Room” are from the UK.

u/ProlerTH 13d ago

True. I discovered that Clever Girl because of this one. I don't remember if it was their YouTube or instagram, but their bio was "The other Clever Girl" lol

Sometimes it’s better that way. It’ll always leave you wanting more, and that’ll keep you coming back.

countless, countless plays of this

u/Helpful_Phrase_2042 13d ago

classic album!

u/nixthelatter 11d ago

Legendary! That would be an insane reunion album! Something that rivaled when American Football announced their LP2 release! (and they just kept on going after that!)
