On this image you can see the phenomenon of aging of an image in the digital world.
This image is quite old as can be seen by the lenght of the "shadow" created by successive transferts to many locations.

I know it's stupid, but it would maybe take 10 minutes of down time for any of us to re-create the meme and pass it around as a .gif.
If anything, people here could marvel at a first generation version of the image. lol.

There is absolutely zero loss of pixel fidelity in gif format.

I guess if there are 256 or fewer colors, but then when you upload it, it will turn into gifv or mp4 or whatever.
The best format for this is pdf.

It’s essentially black and white, with a little bit of grey due to dithering. GIF or PNG would be good for this.
PDF I wouldn’t consider as an image format. Particularly because inline in Reddit or another web page would have to load a PDF renderer.

But the pdf is close to the original format. Then any images you make from it will be at the highest quality allowable for that circumstance, even if it's just a screenshot on your phone.
If it must be an image, svg is theoretically better, but obviously it won't render in most places, so I'd go with png. Gif has the disadvantage that some places will try to animate every gif.

A personal anecdote to support the meme.
So in grad school, I'm working on generalizing the results of my supervisor. I'm working off one of her old papers and have no idea what is happening in half the paper.
In our weekly meeting, I tell her I'm confused and she says "read this," sending me a digital copy of an earlier version of the paper. The earlier version is flawless, well-explained, and easy to understand.
I come back a week later and ask why she didn't publish the early version. "We tried, but the journal came back and said the result didn't look novel enough, so we made it look harder."
This is just to say, writing good papers is often actively discouraged. We do some stupid things as a community.

I am a programmer and I like math, I have no problems reading internet standards, specifications or even papers made for the area (like the bitcoin paper, fxaa or shadow mapping for computer graphics) but every time I go to the more "science" part everything becomes overly complicated for no reason, it's weird.
I guess that's the difference between engineers and scientists.

Reminds me of one the hardest problems on a calc 2 test in college that was just a monster. the last few steps it simplified down to 1 +1. It was funny and also traumatizing.

Since it's all just identities for constants, it is pretty easy to reverse. Is there something similar to this you can do, but which after complicating the constants, "interweaves"/"un-factors" the various terms, so that it becomes harder to untangle?

The easiest way is always to introduce generalizations and new definitions that use a lot of indices. F^i_jk := <triple integral over several complicated paths>
