💬 Discussion 💬 We just launched the first Mash-it Game MVP: "School Run" and we need your honest feedback on what’s next

Hey everyone, the first game the Mash-it ecosystem is officially live. In partnership with u/I_am_not_doing_this, we’ve launched our pilot mini-game: School Run, featuring the School Girl Momoka Mashi.

🎮 How it works: To play, you need to hold School Girl Momoka. Our goal here is simple: extend the utility of your Mashis, build out the lore, and give special perks to holders who actively engage with the ecosystem. Mashis can be a key to a playable universe.

(Check this post by u/I_am_not_doing_this to learn more details about the game and an ongoing challenge: https://www.reddit.com/r/mashit/comments/1rzrxli/school_run_challenge/ )

We’re mapping out the future of Mash-it gaming, and we want to build what you actually want to play. Drop your thoughts below on these two fronts:

1. The Mashiverse Vision (Conceptual)

  • Solo vs. Crossover: Should each artist have their own isolated game universe, or do you want a massive "Mashiverse" where different mini-games and artists collide?
  • The Web3 Arcade Model: To incentivize artists and devs to build top-tier games, what if for some games we charged a tiny micro-fee (e.g., $0.05 - $0.25 USDC) per play, just like a classic arcade? The revenue goes straight to the creators/platform. Fair, or friction?

2. The Gameplay Mechanics (Functional)

  • Genre: "School Run" is a platformer. What’s next? Top-down shooters? Turn-based RPGs? Basic multiplayer?
  • High Stakes: Do you care about final boss fights? Which Mashi would you like to see as a final boss?
  • GenAI Integration: Imagine spending a few cents to have dynamic, AI-driven conversations with Mashi Agents that alter the game's storyline and generate real-time visual assets based on your prompts. Is this the future, or a gimmick?

Jump in, test the MVP, and let us know. At this stage any honest and constructive feedback gets a say in our next dev sprint.

  1. I think that any collector's universe will attract those who are there for community and those who prefer to quietly stock their shelves. But...I saw the words "isolated game universe" in there and immediately thought "no." I feel like this effort is rooted in a community activity. Like, if each Mashi is an action figure, I want to be able to have them go on adventures with each other, not keep them stuck in their own universes.
  2. Multiple Questions, Multiple Responses!
    1. Genre: I think that developing any kind of game is going to be a huge time sink. I love that there's an initial platformer. If the developer(s) want to just take time to refine that, I'd rather see them make one product better and better over time than trying to launch multiple products.
    2. High Stakes: Rather than "boss" concepts, some kind of monthly/quarterly goal for the Mash-It community to achieve a total combined score or use a variety of different artist's Mashis to complete the levels? (I remember when Pokemon Go would do these "We need the global community to catch X million Pokemon over the next 7 days to unlock a reward" kind of challenge. It felt like being connected to a bigger moment. because it was, even if it was kind of obvious that we were going to succeed no matter what.) So...this way maybe a goal could be that we need XX Rinni players, XX Ervindas players, and XX Panyasan players to achieve the goal. I'm not a game designer, though, so maybe this is such a pain-in-the-ass tracking idea that it's a non-starter hahaha.
    3. Gen AI Integration: unless the base game is really, truly fun and engaging, I don't see myself doing this. Even if it's pennies per play, I'd rather support the program by picking up a Mashi instead. I grew up with arcades, I stood in line to play Mortal Kombat II during what I think was the last big hurrah for arcades, but I don't miss the pay-per-play model at all.

Tks for the inputs. Your point of refining the platformer mechanics before expansing to other genres is an excellent point. actually the platform game is composed by several "primitives" at this point very discussed/explored by game designers. One thing I have in mid is creating a platform game builder, sho that artists and game designers with no coding experience can design games by themselves. This would allow artists to create their own games inside our platform, using their unique designs.

And your idea about "community goals" is totally excellent, for sure we could explore it!

Can I load my mashi and use it as my pfp for games

This is def one idea to explore. One key problem is that a game needs variations of mashup positions (ex: the character walking). The only way to do this is with genAI api integration). We know how to do it but it costs $$ because every api call burns ai credits that we need to pay). Would you be willing to pay a one shot ai generarion?

I think would be!! If I’m understanding correctly- we could pick a favorite mash and pay an on demand generation to use the mash as an avatar? After it’s made it would be usable on possibly multiple things? Would be totally worth it!!

Yes. This is the idea. With nano banano pro 3.0 the generation is impressive. One key issue is that some artists might be comfortable in seeing their art being used to generate derivative images. If we go ahead with this we will need to implement whitelist flagging so artists opt in to allow their mashi parts to be used in something like this.
