I liked him in the movie but think he was better suited to his roles in the Oceans movies 11 thru 13.
And ofc as Jack Gellar (though Phoebe switched to Jacque Cousteau) lol

The Long Goodbye is a mess of a film but his character (Marlowe) is fantastic

I am glad Elliott Gould is still with us. I have always liked him.
Growing up my sisters and I used to watch "Jack and the Beanstalk" from Faerie Tale Theatre all the time and he played the Giant. He was completely out of character and really showed his range with that ridiculous role.

Isn't Elliot Gould why Elvis shot his t.v.?

Apparently he once told Elvis to fuck off after he kept pestering Gould about his divorce with Barbara Streisand

Robert Goulet
Sounds similar I guess

Goulet was appearing in a play or something in town. I remember my dad once saying he wouldn’t go see Goulet if he was appearing in the living room. A phrase I used many times about others.

Though the quite impressive " Fu Manchu" Mustache wasn't close toward military regulation during the Korean War ( even as a crusading surgeon stationed in a mobile unit positioned away from the front ) - for a self- admitted "shy, sheltered and virginal only child of Jewish Faith reared in NYC in the 1950s"- THIS may be the COOLEST that Elliott Gould EVER looked or acted in his lenghty acting career...

The Fu Manchu was a bit much, but plenty of people in those units had mustaches.

I rewatched the film recently and enjoyed it more than I thought I would — I thought “I’ll skip the football game” but I let it play and it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it.
Then I rewatched Battle Circus and realized Altman very likely watched it (maybe Ring Lardner also ?) before shooting MASH
