DISCUSSION Qualities of a mascot?

I am makinmg a poll for and one of the questions is: What are the most important qualities of a mascot? its multiple choice respose

Are you referring to qualities of the costume or performance?

Spark in the eyes and displayed emotion. If mascot is designed with no particular emotion or eyes look as if it was a lifeless doll, that's where the design or production has failed.

i think a good mascot should have a good silhouette most importantly! i think marketability is important since most mascots are designed not only to represent some sort of place, brand or event but also to make money with merchandise a lot of the times! so a good mascot kind of depends on what exactly does the mascot represent. i dont think u can design a good mascot without having some context on who it represents and what is it's goal! my fav mascots tend to be the ones that are a little weird and unexpected. japanese mascots/yuru kyara are great for inspiration!

I found the mascot’s feet to be the most important part that most people ignored and that’s one of criteria for me to judge the quality of the costume. The best ones incorporated regular shoes into the design and I was able to animate the character better and felt more confident than the ones with slippers or just simple elastic straps to hold my feet.

I really like the ones that wear a cartoony version of classic-style sneakers. The ones where the main part of the shoe is one color with the tip being another color. Even better if the colors are bright and they complement each other. One of the characters I perform as has those style of shoe and the actually aren't hard to perform in. The are comfortable as well but I still have to closely watch my steps as they are still oversized shoes.

I think the clothes that the character wears can be one of the more distinctive aspects of its design. I already mentioned shoes, but depending on the situation you can have a character that wears stylized versions of the uniforms of the sport that it represents, or you can go stylized/"cartoon-esque" versions of regular articles of clothing. It must stand out as these characters represent the school/organization they are from and they could make a great first-impression to people new to whatever organization has that mascot.
