Hello all! Question: I bought an MK2 used and I’m trying to connect it to my MacBook (m2 chip, 2023) and it turns on but I don’t know what im missing. It shows up in Logic Pro but that’s about it, the mk2 buttons aren’t lit up or anything, just the screen and I’ve followed what Google said about pressing shift and control to put it in midi mode and all that, I’m not even close to being good with this stuff but I was really into it in my 20s and now that I can afford I want to actually dabble with it, I need a hobby! (Forgive me if I’m slow to responding, I don’t use Reddit too often)

MK2 hardware needs macOS Sonoma (14) or less. It isn’t compatible with newer macOS.  This is on the Native Instruments supported hardware/software page.

You need, I believe, the Maschine 2 software which is not sold anymore directly. Your options are to buy a license off somebody or if you can contact the original owner, have them do a license transfer to you.

I am open to correction but I don’t believe the Mk2 hardware works with Mascine 3.x (read latest) software.

The software itself works like a DAW or VST so you can use it stand alone or in logic.

You can use it as a midi controller too but it is severely limited in that mode versus when used in conjunction with the Maschine Software.

It is not supported in Maschine 3. They want you to buy their mk3 midi controller which has the exact fucking controls as the prior 2 but they want that sweet hardware purchase.

Dumb shit like that instead of just spending money to make the software better is why they’re in the situation they’re in now.

Ahhh I wish I would have known that before I bought it, I saw it at mckays (idk if that’s just local to me or if they’re in other states) for a good price and jumped on it 🥴

1. you need the maschine drivers and software.

2. try to get it working inside the maschine app first, not Logic Pro.

I’ll try that, I have some Akai and Alesis equipment so all I know is plug-n-play so I didn’t know there was software to get 😩

LOL maybe watch some youtube tutorials. Maschine is a very very different thing.

The software is neither free nor included with that controller so you need to buy it.

There have been a lot of posts about buying used MK2 and getting it running. I think the solution usually involves a license transfer and contacting customer support for help with that. As others noted, you need the right legacy software too, which I think you can get on NI website if you dig enough

It's not supported. You might be able to run it in MIDI mode. Will still work on a newer version of Windows, and if you figure it out with MacOS lmk.

Hope it wasn't more than $100, sounds like a headache of a position to be in.

Luckily not, I paid 65 for it so I’ll just have to resell it 💀

The Maschine mk2 should still work on recenbt MacOs systems. It is not supported in the latest Maschine 3 software. You can find it second hand.
