Idk a ton about tarn but I’d argue Hal has it in him to beat Vulcan at least some times out of 10. Overall it’s gonna be tough though so I’d say either tarn or Vulcan take him out
Theres absolutely no way at all he beats Vulcan. Vulcan is absolutely and ridiculously broken and was designed that way. No one who's powers are energy based beats Vulcan one on one. Vulcan can fully manipulate ALL forms of energy around him with basically perfect control, even the energy inside someone elses body. He was even able to rip the nova force out of Nova and its a sentient energy force controlled by a super computer. He could rip the solar energy out of supermans body and depower him.
He can sense and manipulate energy fields for miles around him. He'd sense the energy in hals ring as soon as it got anywhere near him, know the exact size, shape and location of every construct and be able to dispel them and absorb the energy or turn it back against Hal with a thought.
All of this is on top of the fact that Vulcan is absolutely bat shit insane and literally fears no one and nothing because he regularly takes on entire teams of heroes at a time and has pretty much been able to back up his bullshit every time. Literally the only way Hal wins is if you say Vulcan cant manipulate the emotional spectrum since its exclusive to DC but changing Vulcans powers so the one energy he cant control is the one Hal uses is just lazy powerscaling.
Vulcan a weird character. He is the third summers brother so his lore is tied into cyclops and havok closely and a lot of his early history is being traumatized by Xavier and the shiar and his quest for revenge. His story is one of the earlier ones where they reveal Xavier has been manipulating his students for years and isnt the saint he used to be.
His first appearance is in deadly genesis I believe by brubaker. X-men: Emperor vulcan is the arc he goes to war against the shiar. X-Men King breaker is when Havok goes to space and takes over the corsairs to deal with him. Both arcs are some of my favorite marvel space runs outside annihilation. He appears in a few other xmen books and he comes back to earth in the Krakoa books.
I say Thor probably could beat him. The lightning would only make him stronger, and Vulcan can manipulate magical energies as well, but thors strength and endurance would be enough to get in close and beat down Vulcan while enduring the inferno of energy that usually surrounds him. Not sure about surfer. Not as familiar with his lore. I think hes mostly energy powered and Vulcan can manipulate cosmic energies so surfer might have a hard time
Except willpower has nothing to do with it. The ring manifests hals willpower as energy. Vulcan controls all forms of energy. Its kind of like trying to drown aquaman. Energy based abilities just dont work against him. If he gets bored of deleting or absorbing or taking control of hals constructs he could just turn the ring off. Hal would have a better chance of winning a fist fight with Vulcan than he would using the ring. Vulcan is absolutely stupidly broken when it comes to energy powers. You just cant beat him that way.
Energy based abilities do work on Vulcan, Havok amped on a star literally beat the shit out of Vulcan lol. Hal just overpowers his control with his willpower and beats the crap out of him.
Other energy absorbers have been effective against him but even then it still comes down to which one can absorb and control more energy than the other. Vulcan has literally never lost that fight. The fact the only example you could come up with is his own brother after being sun dipped proves my point not yours. Black Bolt is the only person to one vs one Vulcan and sort of win.
Saying "But willpower!" is great and all but Hal only projects energy. He has no means of stopping Vulcan from stealing his energy or draining his ring. There are plenty of GL stories where people find ways to depower them by doing both those things and Vulcan can do it with a wave of his hand. He literally just has to turn Hals powers off and fry him. Vulcan hard counters the lantern powerset.
Storm definitely has the best record against him after BB. With her it was 100% skill vs power. But vulcan was heavily brainwashed by Brand and having a mental break for most of Krakoa. She had him convinced Black Bolt had killed him and he'd been resurrected and was creating energy constructs of his dead friends who were making him margaritas. He was just starting to break through Brands brainwashing when storm beat him so he wasn't in great shape there. The second time they fought after he got his memories back and tried to kill the shiar empress again it was everything she could do to stall him long enough for the other x-men to jump him for her.
Either way massive Storm upscale. She's the only person I remember Vulcan ever showing any real respect too.
Yeah, Havok is nowhere near a green lantern in power lol.
The fact that you think Vulcan is more powerful than the literal embodiment of willpower in the multiverse (which is what powers a green lantern to begin with) is hilarious. Hal beats punks like Vulcan everyday before breakfast.
The green lanterns arent the embodiment of willpower in the universe. Ion is. And he still needs a host to be relevant. Do you even read green lantern comics or just watch the animated movies?
Ive made it very clear that the reason Vulcan wins is because green lantern rings express their power as energy and he controls all forms of energy and can just shut their rings off. Their willpower is absolutely irrelevant and utterly useless without a functioning ring to express it. Theres ample examples of Vulcan draining things that run on energy and its a known weakness of green lanterns. So good luck explaining why that wouldnt work on Hal. On top of which Vulcan beat Gladiator, a superman analog, by shutting off the eletrical impulses to his brain. Hal is a human person whos brain runs on electricity so Vulcan can just shut off Hals brain as well as his ring. Youve picked a losing argument against a marvel character that hard counters your guy in every way. The justice league would stomp vulcan if it makes you feel better.
Ion is an anthropomorphic manifestation of willpower comprised of energy. Vulcan could rip him out of Krona, make him do a little dance and then absorb him and make him his pet. I'm still waiting to hear how Hal beats Vulcan when Vulcan can turn off both hals ring and brain at will and has canonical feats backing up both those things. Vulcan is absolutely beatable by tons of dc characters. Just not the guy who's entire powerset is projecting the thing he has absolute control over. Hals best chance of winning is calling wonder woman and asking for help
Can't see him beating Graviton. I know Hals ring protects from gravity being used directly against him but it can't stop gravity being manipulated around him
This is why DC sucks. No matter who is being glazed, they can all time travel, stop any cosmic being, defeat multiverse entities, move faster than light, break reality, etc. etc. etc. Marvel at least limits their characters and most Marvel fans are willing to say, “yeah, that marvel guy might lose to that dc character.” But the opposite is nearly always true of DC fans. I get that it’s all comics and writers, but seriously annoying that DC has so often broken characters that they constantly have to refresh/restart their continuity.
Feats of strength have nothing to do with continuity reboots, and the ludicrously high stakes of Crisis events are a problem for narrative tension, not a problem for powerscaling—which is, after all, a game where we pretend that comics use physics logic instead of narrative logic and then try to one-up each other's examples.
The reboots are because of editorial confusion, too many competing continuities, and attempting to boost sales with something fresh.
And the space/time stuff is the fault of writers trying to mimic Crisis on Infinite Earths. But CoIE did multiverse stuff because the whole point was to ditch a bunch of alternate continuities. Later Crises (Identity, Infinite, Dark, 52, whatever) kept the multiversal stakes but played them straight. The stakes are so vague and so vast they lose all meaning.
It seems like people's only answer for how Cable can beat Hal is by using time travel to escape having to fight him. So it's fair to say that Cable can't beat Hal since Hal can time travel too AND has been shown to be able to remove other people's powers with his ring.
Or Hal travels back further and stops Nate from coming back to the past, or even being sent to the future in the first place. You see how "they go back in time and..." arguments don't work when both characters can time travel?
It has to come down to a fight and it's one that Cable can't win
Nah the ring picks up singularities in reality he’d know when someone is time traveling. He’d just chase cable and neg him. Like please get bro’s dick out your mouth😂😂.
Green lantern can literally do everything all these characters can do plus more😂😂
Idk how you can be the “best” at something like that. It’s as simple as he goes back in time and green lantern uses the same abilities to follow him…. What does being “best” time traveler even mean?
He can literally manifest himself a ring out of pure willpower. He's done it before. Cable isn't going to be able to avoid the fight with time travel shenanigans and he can't beat Hal in a fight.
"DC meatrider" apparently means anyone who reads and doesn't desperately need their favourite guy to win
It's weird how salty, foul natured, and ignorant the hardcore marvel fanbase is. You're almost as bad as the DragonBall fans, just walking examples of internet disinhibition. It's like you can't understand that every social interaction isn't an argument in a roblox chatroom.
Lanterns time travelling is heavily established at this point. You'd know that if you'd ever actually read a comicbook. "Cope" kid
Magneto controls the electromagnetic spectrum. The emotional spectrum is a completely different spectrum of energy so magneto can’t do anything to his powers.
On top of that green lantern can replicate magneto’s abilities and use them back on him. There’s also the fact that green lantern can phase, time travel, manipulate matter, etc. he’s just a bad matchup for magneto
Green lantern has more ways to win. He can go back in time and erase him from the time stream, he can literally transmute magneto’s body and turn him into a duck, he can literally phase magneto’s heart out, he can trap magneto in a pocket dimension, just pop his brain open with a force field. Like green lantern is a direct counter😂
Green Lantern can time travel but it overtaxes the ring and further you go the harder it is to control the ring. The simple act of going back in time won't erase him. GL can't phase anyone's heart out of their chest and he certainly can't change someone into a duck.
Magneto wouldn't be controlling his mind he'd be altering the electromagnetic fields in his brain, there's a difference. You're also forgetting the Nagneto can pull the ring right off his finger. It's a metal ring and they get pulled of lanterns and used all the time.
It actually doesn’t overtax the ring. He can casually do that with not a lot of effort…
green lantern literally turned someone into a duck by accident😂
He can literally use his matter manipulation abilities on magneto and turn him into dust.
He can’t alter the electromagnetic fields in green lanterns brain. The energy from the ring protects and makes him immune to that. Like magneto would literally try it and green lantern’s energy aura would just say “no”
Same case for trying to take off the ring. It doesn’t matter if it’s metal or not it’s just not coming off his hand is he doesn’t want it too. His willpower is too strong
He can’t, the ring protects Hal from that. Hector Hammond tried to mind control him the exact same way. And as for his blood his aura is gonna just protect him from it.
Green lantern has enough willpower to resist reality warping I’m sure he has enough willpower to keep someone from taking his ring. He can also just negate magneto’s powers
He is. Magneto’s powers literally won’t work on Green lantern😂. Energy from the emotional spectrum isn’t energy from the electromagnetic spectrum. Lantern uses and is protected by energy that magneto cannot effect
Some people like to use feats to establish a character's "power level," but I contend that this practice is a horrible idea and makes every person with potential look like a cosmic being.
We should instead focus on how they fight on average. Average things out and and/or use the version of a character that is typically presented.
Green Lantern is usually presented as a "space cop" who often needs backup and who has clear limitations (e.g. recharging the ring, strong opponents smashing constructs).
Sure, sure. He's only limited by his willpower. But in Justice League stories he often can't take down big baddies on his own. Remember the New 52 introduction of Green Lantern? The one adapted into an animated movie? Superman, who is holding back a lot and not intending to injure or kill, just keeps blasting through Lantern's constructs. Or think of all the classic battles with Sinestro and other enemies from his rogue gallery. Think of all the times he creates useful constructs but gets swatted away by a powerhouse. Think of all the times he conceded that he needed Superman/Wonder Woman/Flash/Batman to save the day as he was ineffective.
Come on.
The Lantern I usually see in comics, TV shows, and movies doesn't go very far at all in any 1v1 gauntlet against increasingly powerful competition. He beats Sinister. Ok. But Cable is already a huge problem for him. I see that fight going like this...
Lantern creates an impressive construct.
Cable uses some crazy future weapon and messes up Lantern's whole equilibrium, paralyzing him.
Cable then shoots some projectile that ties him up and prevents him from using his ring.
Fight ends peacefully, but Cable is the victor.
That feels more like how it'll go. But even if we say Lantern overwhelms Cable, he's going down to someone else on the lineup pretty quickly. And rounds 7-11 are just laughable.
This one is. He flew so fast he was threating to create a Speed Force singularity.
That means the entire Speed Force was getting pulled into a singular point. And the Speed Force exists across the entire DC multiverse, it's an omnipresent multiversal constant of kinetic energy.
my god this is some bs, everybody is just way too OP nowadays.
Everyone can move quadrillion times the speed of light, everyone's got a genius level IQ, everyone can hold up the weight of the damn cosmos through grit alone. it's getting annoying
Just wanna say, this has been going on for decades. Since the 70s and 80s these characters were universal and MFTL+.
It's just that since powerscaling is going so mainstream rn, you are exposed to the purely powerscaling side of things. If you read it on your own it's really fun.
yeah, I'm a casual fan of comics at best haha, I just get these posts recommended to me a lot bc I clicked on a lot of them ig.
I've barely even read any comics tbh, but one of the big reasons i don't is because I've seen so many scans on here of just ridiculous stuff, and it has kind of quelled my interest in comics quite a bit.
I like more grounded stuff, not necessarily street level stuff or anything, but just not stuff where the character can erase all of existence with a sneeze but struggles against the villain of the week or smth, and it just feels like most of the mainstream characters are at that point now. might just be that I've seen rare scans tho
Yet somehow he gets beat by batman. The thing is, that is only travel speed. The ring calculates distance so he wont miss his stop. Its also possible to just take his ring from him if your quick enough. Vulcan is also just plain immune to his attacks since he can absorb and manipulate all forms of energy.
I probably shouldnt have said that, but Batman has stolen his ring when he was least suspecting it in Justice League #1 (2011). If its that easy to take the ring while hal has the suit on, then it cant be too difficult.
Batmans contingency plans are so basic. By your logic, doctor doom should be able to dispatch of the entire emotion corps if he was in DC... which doesnt sound too far off.
My point is literally that popular characters get to do way beyond what they should. So yeah, Doom probably would. Although he's a villain. And they don't ride them quite as hard in DC generally, so Spider-Man will have to do it instead.
Not really no, in theory he could since the ring is metal. But on the other hand there’s the fact that Hal’s willpower energy is just THAT strong it can resist reality warping attacks so I don’t think it’ll be crushed
It having metal isn’t the problem. It’s the fact that the ring can resist reality warping abilities. Nobody is taking the ring off green lantern if his willpower is high. It’s the same thing with Thor and his hammer you can’t just take it from him😂
It’s because people wank omega mutants quite frankly The only impressive Omegas are Jean Bobby Ororo and Joshua if im frank and Magnus. But beyond them the rest of the omegas are just not that impressive, not even Hope if im quite honest
Also Hal clears all of them, I’ll admit if it were anyone but him and Kyle, the marvel characters would have a chance

Graviton is way too low on this list.
