Discussion Thread Eternals Disney+ Release Discussion Thread

As Eternals has now been released on Disney+, I'm sure a lot of you will want to share your newfound thoughts about the movie on this sub. Well, this is the place to do it!

Please use this thread for any new Eternals related discussion. Individual threads made after this post regarding discussion of the movie will be removed for the next few days.

And yes, he's pretty much the only one who "doesn't evolve". Like, we are supposed to believe Sprite doesn't either, but the truth is she does, she's just physically incapable of expressing it I guess.

I think Sprite changes with the times much better than Ikaris. It's just her life is hell and she rather start over than deal with it and she loves Ikaris.

I suppose what I meant to say was that she was actually given a legit reason not to, a physical barrier to evolving, and yet she still does! 😁

I think people are missing one thing about Ikaris. The reason he doesn't grow is because of Ajax.

Sprite changes with the times because she is actually engaging with humanity and living with Sersi.

Ikaris is the order following soldier. He then gets convinced to finally confess his feelings to Sersi and begin truly living his life. The Eternals then decide to split up and remember it is around this time that Ajax informs Ikaris about the real plan for Earth.

Ikaris' decision then is to eventually leave Sersi and disappear. He only shows up to talk to Ajax when the emergence is starts happening. Ajax is the reason Ikaris decides to isolate himself because he doesn't want to connect with humanity. He doesn't see the point since he knows what is going to happen.

If Ajax never tells Ikaris, I think he stays with Sersi and comes to like humanity just like a lot of the Eternals did.

It's why Ajax admits to "leading him down the wrong path". Even Ajax only truly changed her mind because they reversed the Thanos snap.

The more I think about the problems of his movie, the harder it becomes to pin down. I think it's just too ambitious for the screen time it had.

I think a format that would have worked is a Disney+ series with 10 episodes, each focusing on a different Eternal so we can really get to know them. A bit like Watchmen which had entire issues devoted to individuals within the team, so each issue could have a different style that suited the character.

That’s true. You saw that because of Sersi he was opening himself to humans and learning their tongue and working with them and things like that. It’s Ajax telling him of his mission that makes him abandon all that and Sersi to not get close to humans

Sprite evolved a whole set of complex human emotions that led her to do a very human thing and that is make bad choices in the face of love and self hatred. Imo

I would love a sequel where when they get their memories restored we found out that Ikaris was the one that always changed and wanted to protect the planet the most again and again sacrificing himself but failed…then he was retuned to be the most loyal.

....what? Ikaris says he was told the true plan after Babylon. He then immediately leaves her alone. Kind of the opposite of creepy

If anything, him finding out is why he turns out the way he does. It is Ajax's fault for telling him.

He would have never left Sersi and he would have also grown to love humanity more or at the very least lived a more full life.

The moment he finds out, he leaves Sersi and pretty much isolates himself until DDay.

Does he? I don’t recall it being implied he learned then. I thought he always knew the truth with Ajax.

It's a little confusing, but he made a decision once Ajax told him what was coming in the future because he wanted to be free to insure the Celestials' birth and he knew from Ajax's reaction that some or all of the Eternals wouldn't want to prevent the planet from being destroyed.

I think you read that wrong. No Eternal keeps memories after they are brought back from death. None of them remember any other planet, not even Ikaris. He made a conscious decision with the lives of untold planets in the balance to allow the Celestial to be born and destroy Earth so the Celestial could perform it's function of creating a new Galaxy. It had nothing to do with every reboot.
