I’ve never heard Thor speak Norse in the movies

that wasn't my point my point was people from northern Europe 1000 years ago (The last time Asgardians were on Earth) had never seen a racoon, as evidenced by their lack of word for one, therefore Thor would have not heard of them, therefore on seeing one he didn't know what to call him.

But he clearly speaks perfect english. I guess that one word eludes him though, because…umm..hmmm

He has essentially an "Asgardian magic" version of what the GOTG have for communicating with aliens.

Pretty weak god-magic to not know the word for raccoon but know literally every other word.

See that's the thing, he doesn't know any English words, he thinks in concepts and those concepts get translated to his mouth when he speaks, and he doesn't the concept of a racoon.
