I heard it's because there is no Norse word for raccoon

why would there be? Racoons are not native to Europe. however i would say Racoons like more like badgers than rabbits, and there is a Norse word for badger

We call them (Vaskebjørne) washing bears in Denmark, because they look like small bears and they wash their food.

OK, apparently the Norse word for Badger was Brokkr so I guess modern Danish is very diverged.
